Hi everyone,
I'm having some work done in the laundry area of the house, and I thought I'd seek to replace the two Siemens Appliances I had with something new, to look new and smart when the building work is complete (won't be until the end of May but couldn't wait that long!) So, last weekend, I bought a new Samsung Washing Machine and matching Samsung Heatpump dryer. I was swayed by the price reductions of them - the washing machine was £800 instead of £1400, and it comes with a 5 year parts and labour guarantee and 10 years on the motor. The dryer was £750, instead of £1100. Both brand new, not ex display. I know this is entering mid range Miele money, but I wanted to give these a go first. Plus, TBH, I think they look pretty decent. So, here are some pictures for you: 1) Washing Machine itself.

the machine is controlled by a tablet type device - all the settings are on it.
So far, I've used Auto Optimal, Cotton, Synthetic, Bedding and Wool. |

Every cycle starts with the machine sensing the load, and deciding how much water, detergent to use, as well as time taken to complete the cycle.
Here is the sensing screen

Here's the 10KG drum - with a nice blue LED light, and a 1600 RPM spin speed
You can also see the section for the detergent tanks - it holds about 2ltrs of detergent, and 1ltr of fabric softener. The screen tells you when its dispensing detergent - I must admit, it uses detergent sparingly - perhaps I was always using far too much! Either way, things are CLEAN and thats the main thing

I'm just getting used to them to be honest! But, in terms of the washer, what I like already:
- it looks VERY nice - its incredibly quiet - it gives you a report at the end of the cycle about how much water and energy you've just used - 1600 RPM spin is noticeably better than the 1400 RPM on the Siemens and the 625 on the Top Loader - auto dispense feature is pretty cool, although I can see bubbles in the machine I'm SURE its using less than I'd used previously! - massive range of programmes. Some pointless. Some useful. - feels well built. Door is really heavy - its a Which Magazine best buy - the nearly half price I got it for - high water levels The Dryer: - big load - drum light - range of cycles - option to override the eco settings and dry "properly" anyway, theres my Thursday night update. Feel free to ask any questions you may have! |

These are the special stains cycles. Just like any other stain function, they are somewhat questionable in use, but their naming is quite bad for sure. @foraloysius BSH dryers all have 112l drums. AEG's drums used to be 118l, but IIRC they are 120l by now as well. Whirlpool cooperation dryers have 120/121l. Samsung dryers have 120l as well, I think. |

The washer looks really fancy. Congrats on your purchase (and the great discount!).
As Henrik said, these are stain cycles. Their purpose is explained in the downloadable manual. I looked at samsung.com and the 24" dryers are listed as 4 cu.ft. models, which would make them one liter bigger than the BSH models. |

Hi all!
thanks for your comments - although just to point out I didn't buy the machine because it has a gardening cycle! I have no idea what it does, nor will I ever find out. haha. And just so none of you think I'm mad, I would NEVER have paid full price for this machine. EVER. I'd of been straight to the Miele Outlet in Oxford, if I was going to spend £1400 on a washer. :-) :-) @rolls_rapide - thanks very much, I have read about the service of Samsung, but also read the Which? reviews, and coupled with the fact the washer has a 5/10 yrs guarantee (more than some Miele's) and that they seem to be exploding into the UK Marketplace at the moment, I thought I'd give them a go. Ref the Siemens machine - there was nothing wrong with it at all. I just fancied a change to be honest. @rapunzel - thanks for you comments. As I said above, I didn't buy it for those cycles. The hygiene cycle (I read up on it) heats to 60*c, and hold it at that temp for the duration of the wash part and then rinses 5 times, and spins 1600 rpm |

Congratulations Dude!
Looks like a brilliant machine. You'll be really pleased you got it. I recently brought a Samsung and couldn't be happier with it... despite numerous comments along the lines of "It'll break within a month"... "Good luck with that" ... "It'll shred you clothes to bits" ... some people just cant help themselves, eh?! Like yours it was a Which? Best Buy and came with a 10 year guarantee. Let us know your thoughts after you've had a chance to do a couple more washes. |

@liamy1 - thanks for pointing out the guarantee details - if you've read my very first post, I did call that out myself, so I am well aware of the difference between 5 and 10 years. Thanks for looking out for me though.
@rollsrapide - yep, I called them, and also had the store where I purchased it from check for me too, and its in writing. Being a smaller local store they had access to a Samsung Rep who saw the process through too - this was after I had spoke to their contact centre abroad and I was a bit worried. @l6810 - thanks very much man! Yeah, I agree with you - some of the comments made are a real shame - you'd almost imagine I single handidly designed the "gardening" or "cooking & dining" programmes based on the reaction I was getting. Luckily I'm not stupid enough to have to use them (although I may do at some stage for fun!) And yes, I very much appreciate the "good luck" wishes I have received - just the sort of thing I didn't quite expect from a forum like this. But as you say, some people! Which Samsung did you get? I did look at their new quick drive machines actually (with the spinning pulsator plate at the back) but they weren't quite as discounted as this one! :-) |

No worries Bud!
Yeah, it's a shame as this is the only online forum I know of for this community... But on the odd occasion I log on it's just full of criticism. Now, everyone is entitled to their opinion and some of those will have truly come from a bad experience with a brand... but it's not asking a lot to put that to one side and be happy for someone who's proud of a new purchase. Ha, well yeah I went for the Quick Drive. ;) I got a great deal, and TBH it just looked cool! What did you think of Auto Optimal? I've found myself using Super Speed a lot Adam |

Hi Adam,
how is the Quick Drive then! I'd say I'm jealous, but for now I'm too entertained with the touch screen on mine to care (and of course, using the Gardening programme! haha) I've used Auto Optimal a few times - I'm not too sure what it does to be honest with you, and also it doesn't seem to be as generous with the auto dispense amounts. On the other hand, I have used Super Speed and that does dispense a shed load of detergent and softener - it doesn't seem to weigh the clothes on this one, so perhaps it just puts a set amount in. I've used Cottons (not the eco one) and the Synthetic programmes the most - they run really well, and again, dispense decent amounts of detergent and softener into the load, and the cotton one finishes with the 1600 rpm spin. Synthetic is 1200RPM Has yours got auto dispense? I've told the machine I'm using "standard concentration" softener and set the amount to "more" and the detergent have told it that I am in a hard water area, and to dispense standard amount. Later today, I'm going to head out and get some Persil small and mighty concentrated detergent (currently got Persil Non Bio Liquid standard in there), and hopefully that'll then ensure that the Auto Optimal programme, even when it puts a small amount in, work a little better - you can't put Ariel Gel in it for example as it'll block the machine up (read this on forums) Chris |

Hi Chris
Well of course... but I'm feeling a little left out now, without a 'Gardening' program of my own. :) Yeah it's great! Not having owned a Samsung before I'm not sure what's changed program wise... apart from the obvious back plate and shorter wash times. The rinses are quick too, about 35 mins on Cotton for the rinses and final spin. Total time is 1:04 for 40oC and 1:21 for 60oC with a full load. About 10 - 15 less for a half load. Weirdly Synthetics doesn't use the back plate but spins at 1200 rpm for the interm spins and 1400 (the machines max) on the Final spin. It's almost as if Cottons should really be labelled "Quick Drive" and Synths should be labelled "Traditional" I went for the lower end model so doesn't have Auto Dispense or the Auto programme but was curious to see what they do. Yeah I reckon Persil S&M will work well in there. Not a big fan of the add door... blocks the view of the wash and seems to need a regular wipe over. Have you used yours much? |

Hello Adam!
yeah, I must have done around 12 loads so far in it - from wool, to bedding, to towels. Interestingly, the bedding cycle only heats to 40*c Max and has an 800RPM spin - so I won't be using that one. The cotton eco cycle is 4hrs59mins long - used that overnight last night. I'm not a massive eco warrior NOR do I have the time to wait nearly 5 hrs for a cycle to complete so I will only use that when I go out for the day, etc. The auto dispense feature is pretty good, once you have figured out how it works - the washer senses the weight for around two mins before the cycle starts, then at fast distribution speed it showers water in from a jet above the door, and stops. Then the display changes to say its dispensing detergent - this ranges from a few seconds up to around 15 seconds at the most (thats what I've seen so far). The same happens for softener. Got to admit...the add door feels more gimmicky to me than my gardening programme! |

Yeah I was also disappointed with the Bedding program only going up to 40oC.
I have seen they are about to release a bunch of new Quick Drive models with Steam programmes... One programme is a take on the Hygiene programme you've got... and the other is the existing Bedding cycle with Steam. It's supposed to kill/remove 99.9% of allergens and bacteria so I'd feel a little more rest assured using that version... but hopefully they've bumped it up to 60oC also! |
