I wish I had a basement to put that in. Stupid newer houses with teeny-tiny crawlspaces....

I love those kenmore's built real sturdy. And I like the back opening lid. It's to bad they went to the side opening lids. I always thought they got in the way.

1950 Kenmore:

This looks real close to the Kenmore that My Grandma Francis had back in West Bingham, Pa. When I was very little until I was 10 years old. This was a very good washer with the Preggers Roto-Swirl.

Re: My Parent's First Top-Load:

This was my Parent's 1st Top-Load Washer, after their 1946 Bendix "Bolt-Down" went out. My Mother's good Friend went with her to the only Sears Store in Town at that time, to purchase the new Washer. Unfortunately, I guess I wasn't able to go with them, or else I would have remembered checking out all the Models available at that time.

I don't remember for sure what year it was that the Bendix went out, but it was somewhere between 1953 and 1955, because we moved into the house that I'm living in now, in April 1957.

We only Moved 2-Blocks West from where we lived before this house and unfortunately, the Bekins Movers damaged the Kenmore Washer. My Parent's put in a claim and Bekins paid for the Repair{s}, but the Washer was never the same, so my Parent's replaced it with a 1959 Hotpoint Solid Tub Washer. It had the Red Bakelite Outer Housing with a Metal Inside Lint Filter, that sat underneath the Red Plastic Dish-Like Detergent Dispenser and it had the long thin upper part of the Agitator, similar to the Guys early 1950's Hotpoint Washers, that have been worked on lately.

Oh! Those were the Days, when the Washers and Dryers were certainly made a whole lot better than most of these Washers and Dryers, that seem to be just like a lot of the Small Appliances, to where they are Disposable, after only a few years of use.

Peace and Great Laundry Times, with a Vintage Kenmore Washer, Steve

Well c'mon guys!,,,,,I'm dying of curiousity down here wondering who's gonna get, whose already got, or whose about ready to get that beauty.

I've email the seller but have not received a reply.

That is one of my dream machines.

This could be one of those ads that sold right away and the seller couldn't be bothered with removing the ad from Craigslist. I once sent a seller 4 emails asking about a Frigidaire washer before she finally answered that it was gone. It can be very frustrating, but every once in a while very rewarding. Patrick

Say, who DID end up with this machine?

I'd love to see more pictures of it in it's new home.

Well, as of 6:30 this morning, I can relax and tell everyone that this dream machine of mine is safely tucked away in a friends garage in Portland. I am so fortunate to have freinds up in the area who offered to help me out (just like I have in Seattle). ((--::

Sometime in October I plan to climb into my longbed Silverado and pick it up along with the bolt down (and now the possibility of a second Kenmore) that is presently stored at another friends house in Seattle.

I've made some inquiries and if the washer Gods are with me I'll also possibly return home with two more of my dream machines which are an early 50s Kenmore which opens from the front and has the dials on the front and a 58 either Lady Kenmore or FourStar model (which is right below the LK model but retains a very similar look to the console of the LK). This one I want to match up to my 58 gas Kenmore FourStar dryer. Then my hunting days will be over and I can just stay home and work on and play with my washers--well at least for a while anyway. ((--::

For years I wanted just one sudsaver Kenmore-now I have them coming out the cazooo!

It's kind of frightening to me when I catch myself thinking about constructing another area to house my wonderful washers and not considering updated renovations to the house! Where is my mind!

Would love to meet any/all members in the Portland/Seattle area and of course rap about old washers when I make the trip.

Dick

Congratulations! This looks like it's going to be a fun machine. Please get in touch with me through the email link in my profile and we'll have to meet up when you come to Portland. I wouldn't mind seeing that machine in person before you take it back to sunny Palm Springs. Fun times ahead!

take care- Patrick

Pull the Sheets!!

Pull the sheets and gather the dirty clothes, its time for a wash in.

Would love to meet any/all members in the Portland/Seattle, was the request by "washer runner" Dick S, from Palm Springs.

For the Seattle gang, let's start the preliminary planning and have a wash in in October.

Rainier Beer used to say, "Its the Water!" in their ads and the same is true for laundry. The laundry with Seattle water is like none other.

For anyone interested, email me, cookman2257@msn and we'll get the belts turning on a great time together.

Congratulations, Dick!

Kelly
