Just a few fast questions for those in the know:
These Miele Novotronic machines in the header--I've an opportunity to acquire a nice set. I briefly used identical ones about 20 years back, and I'm thinking they are circa 1995 model year, yes? Also--there is a stackability question. Do they require a stacking/mounting kit or does the dryer simply sit securely atop the washer? (Attached Pics of washer and dryer are not the actual machines I'm going after....just reference images).

Back in 2006 I bought LG Tromm front loaders as they had capacities I could deal with. My only regret is that the Tromm washer uses very, very little water (which I thought would be conscientious of me, as this is the desert region of the U.S.)...downside is that I've never, ever felt the laundry feels/smells quite as clean as I like. I'm thinking the W918 Novotronic uses substantially more water than the LG, but is still water efficient...yeah?

Last thing--for anyone experienced with these or who still owns them: What seems to be the least readily-available replacement parts for them? I'm banking that drum bearings and shock absorbers might still be had, but what about some of the vital guts/electronic bits? Any common horror stories?

Stacking: Yes, there is a kit that Miele sells. IIRC lid of washing machine comes off and things go from there.

Parts Availability: Miele USA is best source for up to date listing. If you call their toll free number and speak with the parts department, they should be able to help. You'll need model number of appliance, and what part you are seeking. You can say that you have an older appliance and would like to check what is still available. This may get you a *sigh* and roll of eyes *LOL*, or simply someone happy to help. Say this as one who has contacted Miele on this issue too many times and know the drill. Think it comes down to how they have to search the parts listing. If you don't give them a part number telephone person likely has to bring up the model then do some cross listing/reference checking.

IIRC Miele has discontinued bringing parts from Germany for the 7xx, 1065/1070 and 19XX series washing machines and their matching dryers. These appliances are now all outside of Miele's 20 year part stocking guarantee and are considered "ancient". Only parts that are still in USA and or are also used on later units are still being orders. That is if shocks fit any of the modern washers, then Miele will keep importing.

Water usage: Miele USA should still have the operating manuals for these appliances on their website; that or there are other sources. There you will find water usage for "average" cycles IIRC.

Unless you have found a German import; model for washer sold in USA is W1918. Say this because that is how Miele USA's tech support will locate manuals or whatever other information you are seeking.

Excuse me Laundress, while you're at it...

Do you know any sources for those Miele electric double outlet boxes that allow you to plug in both washer and dryer to the same single 220V outlet?

The reply is most appreciated. And after hours of fighting my Firefox browser, was able to acquire the .pdf installation manuals, etc. for the Miele W1918 so loads of other Q's were answered as well. Ken, that "power splitter" for the Miele seems to show up relatively frequently on Ebay, and perhaps even Amazon. I've hunted it with various search criteria, seems to have "057B" model/part number associated with it although "Miele easy install kit" is what it was supposedly known by. That particular item is one of the biggest reasons why I didn't chase this set of machines many years ago--at that time, it was quite difficult to locate them and I needed to "plug and play"....so bought the LG units...I have to wonder if there might not be a way to build one of those boxes oneself...I'd love to see the inside of one. I'm no electrician~but I would think if you provided the build / wiring / fuse specs to a knowledgeable person, this could be done.

OK

Thanks Alan, I'll look for it. I've been debating asking my electrician to fabricate one for me, but he may tell me it would be easier and safer to just run another 220v line from the box.
