So you guys! We’ve had this Maytag maxima front loader for about 4 years and I’ve never liked the way my clothes feel after I wash them. When I was 4-5 i always used to go to my aunts house and she had a GE top loader from about 2000-2001 and i always liked how it sounded. Yesterday I was on Craigslist and saw a very similar model for about 75$ so I bought it. I hooked it up today and i wasn’t used to the smaller capacity (i think it’s about 2.7 c.f.) but man oh man it’s been a long time I haven’t felt clothes that are actually clean. The smell is wow and even thought the straight vane agitator takes a long time to turn clothes over it actually washes them. I’m so happy of my purchase and will sell my maxima pair and will never look back to front loaders again. Also the sound of that washer takes me back when I was in my aunts bathroom and used to put my finger in the lid switch and watch the washer do it’s thing and feel the steam of the hot water hit my face and the smell of bleach (she liked her white sheets to be really clean) and would get my stool that was at her house to reach the lid. Man those were the good times and I would give anything to go back.

It may wash better than an HE, but don't expect it to last forever...

your lucky with your purchase but depending on the age of the washer you will eventualy have to replace it if you bough it used unless your good at fixing to washer yourself because most toploads today are now high efficency

Is that washer's lid side-opening like the Kenmores were from the 1960s to 2004-ish?

What is it rebranded as? I could be wrong, but the graphics and the beigish color of the control panel doesn't look like a GE-branded model, but rather something GE built for another company.

side lid

pierreandreply4's profile picture
if its a side lid it might be an older fridgedaire washer or an older eaton Viking would help to see a pic of the full washer and maybe posting the model and serial number that way members would help you know what brand the washer is

If I had a choice...

If I had a choice between an HE clothes dirtier or the '18 speed queen, It will be the '18 speed queen! I am serious!

if anything, swap out that agitator for a dual action, plus you will get a softener dispenser....

some more advice I would also replace the control knobs that are kind of yellow by some white ones or at try to whiten a bit the actual control knobs

I like your washer!!!!! Think it looks like it means business, no fooling around. I would be pleased to have it. Don't overload it and it will probably serve you well for a long time. Very nice. Congratulations!!!!
