Until this past Sunday my sister has used the 1985 GE over the range microwave with never a problem. I happened to be there Sunday when she was using it. It was run for a couple minutes without any trouble. When set again and start was pressed all that happened was the timer began to count down. I'm thinking the magnetron finally went? Would there be a fuse anywhere to check? If it is the magnetron any thoughts on the chance of finding a replacement?

If I recall many of these older units, I had one, had a fuse that might have blown.  It's a special microwave fuse, but generally available, that would be the first thing I'd check.

It does sound like a fuse... My father had a Hotpoint over the range microwave that this happened to just before he moved in 2006.  The microwave in question was a 1984 model.  I wish I could remember where the fuse was but IIRC he didn't have to take the unit down to change it.

Thanks for the info guys. Found a couple vids on YT concerning GE. One for the thermal fuse behind the control panel. The other concerning the Magnetron thermal fuse.

Came across this video concerning a failed door switch. This is how the GE is acting so this is something to consider too.
