If the cover was glued on originally such as a WP DD transmission differently reassemble it the same way, the thickness of a gasket will cause the cover to bend and could cause aliment problems.
On WP BD and older MT Pittman style transmissions these transmissions originally used cork gaskets but the manufactures both switched to paper gaskets LONG ago and the paper gaskets worked a lot better.
Cork would usually be my last choice and probably the poorest performing material as well, there are so many other good gasket materials out there if you have to make your own.
