I'm hoping someone here has had a similar problem and can suggest a solution.

This dishwasher has been in use for 9 years after being in storage for a couple of years. The control panel has a cluster of touchpads where you select cycle and options. The control panel has an outer layer of plastic/vinyl that is bubbling up and coming off in 2 or 3 places. The printing under the plastic covering is in excellent condition.

I don't want to peel all the plastic off as I'm afraid that the printing will come off fairly quickly without protection. The control panel is NLA and have been unable to locate a donor machine.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Is there some kind of liquid plastic that I could paint on that would dry to the right flexibility and function like the original? Is there some kind of peel and stick clear vinyl that might perform well?

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions as I like this machine and would like to keep it going as long as possible.

David

What about something like clear contact paper?  I don't know how well it would stick or hold up.

clear vinyl film

Hi John,

Thanks for the info. I will try to contact the company and see if this film or one of their other products might work. I worry how it will perform with steam and/oe heat escaping from a nearby vent. Also, if I ever tried to remove it, I want to be sure that the adhesive backing doesn't lift off the printing that it would be stuck to.

I wonder if the panel that the plastic protects is not screwed into the back of the console. If true, maybe the pressure around the edge of the panel just holds a piece of nonadhesive plastic in place. Does that make sense or have I just had too much coffee?
