From anybody that's taken an advertising/marketing course, this photo speaks volumes of the era. Of note is the positioning of the people and the clothes they're wearing - particularly the stylish white woman with perfect manicure and earnings who's at the top of the pile, and then the black woman in the background wearing a very humble striped dress.

meant to say "For anybody..." not "From anybody..."

Now that you mention it-- and without even looking again-- that impression is what I took away, more than the brand or product.

Advertising is a VERY perverse pursuit.  Dishonesty to the Nth power; manipulation without your consent or even awareness.

Take the TV ads for truth-dot-org, govm't anti-tobacco evangelists.  Parts of what they SAY are true, while the conclusion they lead you to make is an outright lie.  Or all the drug ads.  Distracting images of the happy drugged life you'll have while the announcer reads the side effects that can disable or kill you.

Media awareness should be mandatory in schools.  But of course, what with media driving 2/3rds of the commercial economy, that's extremely unlikely to happen any time soon.  Meanwhile we have to take it upon ourselves.  Most of us can't afford ignorance on this topic.

yes, and old saying applies to all adds

as well as all perspective buyers of all goods, services, and consumer logic.
Caveot Eamptor. Buyer beware. Those selling anything and everything have one goal.
To separate us from our money.
It is even often the goal of politics on either side.
A 1965 law passed, and abolished just last week provided for prevailing wages for the construction trades on every state, county, and municipal project.
That meant no illegal's on any job site, and parity pay with the local trades based on cost of living, average mean incomes, economy of scale, etc.
Guess who the main benefactor and proponent to abolish the law was?
American's For Prosperity no less. Prosperity? Really? When now they can force even lower job bids, but the governor, etc. can grant a cousin a two million dollar furniture account increase for state office furniture for one example?
By the way, not that it may matter, but AFP is an ultra conservative group.
So what are they trying to conserve? Not the incomes of average working folks, not as I see it by this. They may say it enables more competition for lower bids.
Well, going by our roads, I see what the lowest bid gets us. A road that only last's 8 years, then has to be totally re built again.

That's the title of a book written by Vance Packard over 60 years ago, exposing ad agency practices of psychological manipulation.  It's more relevant today than ever before.  Read it and you'll never look at an adult beverage ad's ice cubes in a cocktail glass the same way.
