I believe these are called a Soapstone laundry tub....usually all metal...and heavy...
I had a double in my first house....came in handy more than you know... our washer drained into a pipe, but I would put the drain hose into the tub, so I could hear the gushing water and knew where the cycle was at during the cycle... yes, there was a scrub board built in to the left sink... | ||

One of the reasons i chose the apartment i live was the laundry sink LOL Anf if I could, i'd have a triple one installed. Specially for people that have several washers (like us) the laundry tubs can also work as expansion tanks to prevent sewer overload with several washers draining at the same time. | ||

Here, for example, i can have 8 washers draining exactly at the same time (3 in stand pipe and the rest in the sink). It's great to see the laudnry sink filling to near the top and draining ina controlled manner, and I don't need to move a finger. I'll never have a flood YAY! | ||
