Yes but others have sold for more than $10,000.00 so the ad states, so it must be worth them money. lmfoa Jon |

I saw a few of these come in but never really liked them. A working unit that was really dirty took forever to clean up for resale and then they just sat there on the sales floor. Back then people wanted space, not nostalgia. But you do have to admit this one is very clean and looks very complete. A thing of beauty is a joy forever...I guess. |

Joe, I always find the stories you share about your days at Western to be interesting and entertaining!
Just FYI, a silhouette of the Western Appliance neon sign is a prominent image on banners hanging from the lamp posts in what's now known as the "Midtown" neighborhood.
I heard that the airport made them remove the strobes from atop the three spires. That is so B.S.

My family was there the night they switched on the sign. It was a San Jose Mercury News front-page event. Those flashing strobes were very bright and lit up the surrounding neighborhood like colored lightening.
The approach to the airport isn't all that far away so it was understandable why they wanted those strobes turned off. Needless to say the store's owner Franz Neiderauer (a close friend of my dad's) was not a happy camper.
