I have access to tons (not literally) of boxes of varying sizes via work left from drink cups, popcorn tubs, candy, and such. Unfortunately there's no room to keep them and many aren't suitable for reuse after being torn open by the minions. A notable specimen is a very thick/sturdy type of cardboard for cookies (four 4-lb bags per box) from an outfit in FL ... and their shipping charges are outrageous. |

At one time you could get nice boxes from just about any merchant-just ask-often they are glad to have someone haul away the "cardboardomite"This was especially handy for moving items you couldn't carry on the movers van. |

For fear of creating a habitat for vermin, in particular bugs (ok, roaches).
However will keep the odd few "nice" sturdy Uline type shipping boxes when they arrive. With arrival of dimensional pricing (USPS, FedEx Ground, maybe USPS), many shippers have equally downsized boxes used to cut down on not needed space that is now costing them money. That and many have simply gone over to poly bags instead. When people do need boxes (shipping, moving, etc...) around here they do roam streets to get at those discarded by shops before they are collected by rubbish men. Only issue is that the homeless also covet boxes (they use them to make shelters, sleep on, etc..) so there is a keen demand. Final worry is that there is gold in all that paper. Bands of odd men or groups drive around in busted up vans or rented trucks to get at paper set out by businesses for rubbish collection. This is illegal but apparently those bales of paper are worth big money. |
