Here is a restorable washer, wish it were closer.

It is a little older than that turquoise colored dryer, so not a matched set.

people keep asking for these and here one is!

How many of these old Westinghouse washers and dryers are still out there that are still running.

They were simple

And the only negative was they DID tangle the clothes badly, but as I have always maintained, If clothes are tangled, they have done something besides lying in water!

Westinghouse L-4 Washer

I am about to part one of these out that looks better than this one, so if someone buys this one or wants parts from mine get in touch.

The one we have has a motor problem and I took the good door boot.

These early WH FL washers were one of the most reliable early AWs, however I don't know of a single one that is still in everyday use.It is pretty safe to say that no early AW has lasted 60+ years, however I am sure that many machines built in the last 20 years will still be running after 60 years, quality control just got increasingly better over the last 30 years or so.

to say nothing of pot metal and metal parts that got replaced by various plastic parts so rusting and corrosion were greatly reduced. The quality of paint was also  improved, even, eventually, by Westinghouse.

westinghouse slant

This is the washer my mother had when I was 4 that started it all for me.I have been wanting one of these for some time if I could find a decent one. This one looks like it has a hole in the tub.I just asked my mother who is turning 90 if the machine tangled the clothes and she said no. John thank you again for that beautiful bendix you brought me its just awesome!

Hi Mark, I just recycled the L-4 we had, you didn't want it, I did save a lot of major parts, but they are going soon if someone does not come and get them, ROBERT

Westy

Hey John,It was nice of you to offer the one you had its just that it wasn't the same machine as the one pictured.I wanted that one because it is exactly like the one my mother had until I was 5.That is the machine that started my love and fascination with washing machines. That one has the nice chrome ring around the door. This is all my fault I should have just grabbed that one when I had the chance its not like there is one of these on every street corner. This was the height of incompetence on my part.Maybe this one will resurface. Its not all bad I do have a very nice top of the line 59 slantfront even though the shipper nearly destroyed it.The tub was on its side in the cabinet and a coworker had to help me put it back together like Humpty Dumpty.

Westinghouse parts

I do have a machine like this one. Motor, solenoid and various parts appear in good condition but I’ve never tested the machine as the door latch is broken and the boot is dry rotted. It’ll be going away st some point as well.

That is nice but it is missing the chrome strip on top and it has the dark blue speckle tub and the one I want has the gray speckle tub.My 1950 boltdown westy has the blue and I cant have two machines in my collection with the same tub preferably.I am funny like that. It also does not have the Westinghouse badge.
