What an amazing array of features for $229.00 and only $10.00 more for a suds saver! The 800 was one step below the Lady, right?  We paid about that much for our Westinghouse FL in the mid 60s. In the early mid 70s, We bought a floor model 1-18 Imperial that was reduced from $284 to $248 at Davison's/Macy's so the prices seem for all of them seem good,  depending on the year of the Kenmore.

I think Bob (appnut) has mentioned that he grew up with a Kenmore 800. And I agree; Kenmore offered many great features on their washers that I didn't appreciate at the time, having grown up with a truly wonderful 1960 Model 80 that I hated because it wasn't a Frigidaire.

I think ours was purchased spring 1971.

Those washers were great, especially with their features. If only they could have sped up their anemic spin speed.

My neighbor V. had the '72 Kenmore 800 set in Avocado until sometime in the 80's, when she got a new Kenmore. She now has an even newer Kenmore set.

like Frigilux

i grew up around Kenmore, whirlpool and maytag, but always had "Frigidaire envy" feeling like they were somehow better, maybe because the jet action, etc made them different. anyone else feel the same? Maybe it was because the only person i knew who had one was my aunt who always had the best of everything...Cadillac, Kirby and all Frigidaire appliances.

What kind of agitator did these models have? Just wondering.

Inflation

$248 in 1971 is now equivalent to $1530 today, so that was a pretty pricey washer.

Golden Poly Super Rotoswirl agitator. There were apparently 3 editions of this model.  the first had a woodgrain look on the control panel surrounding the knobs and it hade a VariFlex agitator.  The one pictured was the 2nd generation.  The 3rd generation had the modified water temp & water level knobs which pointed to panel graphics for settings as well as the lid was replaced with the notched lid that removed the lid handle and also added the super quite belt to make it quieter.
