I picked up this Maytag The other day for free, it washes great, drains the water out the tub does not move! Model #mav5000aww I’ve done a little research and come up with 2 possibilities. 1 the belt needs replaced but looks decent to me, 2 thrust bearing. When I rotate the transmission pulley clockwise it agitates but when I rotated it counter clockwise the tub did not move an the pulley was pretty tough to rotate. Hope someone could help! Thanks

Norge-Tag For Free

Hi Doug, Its not the belt, it could be the main drive pulley and thrust bearing kit, when you turn the main drive pulley in the spin direction it should force the brake rotor up a tiny bit to release the brake and then whole tub and transmission should turn fairly easily.

The Norge-Tags were fun washers that performed in all ways better than the two-belt DC Maytag's EXCEPT in durability and longevity, You have in your possession one of the main reasons that Maytag went under in 2006.

Hmm, that looks like a load-sensor agitator, will that swap onto to a DC orbital trans Maytag?

Doug, the Atlantis agitators had a bolt that went through the centre of the agitator, its not like the helical drive machines with the set screw on the agi base. It wont fit.

My parents had one of these machines, a near TOL machine. Great performer and great capacity.

similar problem! I think the trans is locked up in this one. Spins fine, smokes the belt in agitate.

It's a beautiful washer, hate to scrap it.

Yes I have also read the brake might be stuck. I’m not sure where the brake is located though. Like I said when I htook the belt off an hand turned the transmission pulley counterclockwise ‘spin position’ it is somewhat hard to turn an the drum doesn’t move
