Last week I had the pleasure of spending a couple days upstate in Mocksville, N.C.  It was a very rainy dark day but once I got there the warmness and hospitality of Hans and Donald more than made up for the drive!  Sadly I had to leave a couple of days later but have with open invitation to visit anytime I want!

The pics aren't the greatest as I'm not a great photographer, so bear with them.  The pics are only a representation of all the goodies Hans has.  There are about 700 vacuum cleaners-both canister and upright, though mostly canisters.  He has every model Kitchenaid mixer ever made.   He took the first model from 1923 to the BeltWay convention last year.  There are hundreds of hand mixers and stand mixers from all makers, Ronson and Nutone food centers-even new in boxes!  Blenders by the hundreds, irons, waffle makers, electric frypans and all kinds of coffee makers and teakettles!  Then there's a shed full of cookware!  I can't describe what all he has!

And then there's the cookbooks!  There's a room full of them and lots more in boxes!  He pretty much knows many of them by heart!  And his knowledge about foods of the South is fabulous!  His knowledge of major appliances is fun too!  I had brought my boxes of manuals and sales literature and we spent a full day just going through them!

Donald's Christmas collection takes up the whole top floor of the house and there's overflow in one of the storage buildings!  It was to cold, wet and dark to string any lights--too early too!

Hans and I didn't get around to do any cooking together, but that's something to look forward too!  Hans and Donald's friendship and hospitality to me was wonderful and special!  After years of knowing each other on AW and some phone calls along the way is now a great friendship! Thanks guys!

Greg

P.S.  Did I bring anything home?  Yup!  a 1951 Kenmore roaster oven that looks like new, a Regal oil-filled electric frypan that I just used, a blue Osterizer a Kirby D80 that had been Clay Floyd's and a wonderful Electrolux Assistent--the fabulous break maker/mixer from Sweden!  Today known as the Ankasrum. Tomorrow it's the day  try it out!

In the first set, #11 has that Presto Rock 'n Mix at the top. I remember how CU panned that when it was introduced in the 60s.

What a wonderful collection, although we have seen hints of it before.

So Hans, enquiring minds want to know, how did that Hoover Harlequin get all the way from Scotland (for that is where it was manufactured) all the way to North Carolina? It is UK Voltage or US? My friend Doug Smith found one in Canada what was manufactured for that market although it was an earlier model.

That must be the largest collection of vacuums, mixers and other small appliances in North Carolina, if not entire the country. Really quite impressive to say the least! I’m glad Greg that you had such a nice visit with Hans and Donald. It was a great way to celebrate your birthday. Thanks for taking all the photos and sharing them with all on us here on AW.

That's a great space, could spend hours just in the mixer room. Hans and Donald would be the perfect hosts in that magical electrical wonderland.

WOW!! I paid Hans and Donald a visit a few years ago when they were still at their other home, and while it was a sight to behold then....I think the collection has at least doubled!! Incredible! Thanks for sharing your visit to Mocksville!

Hans - guess I'll have to venture down there again and see all the new stuff!!

A beyond impressive collection!

I'd have to say Hans has one of, if not the most, complete collections of small appliances on Earth. It would be a delight to see, along with Donald's Christmas items.

Visit to Hans!

You won't be disappointed!  We ought to think about having a Wash-inn!  Oh wait!  An appliance-in!  There are 3 motels within 10 minutes but lots of land around them to pitch a tent!

I’ve read many posts over the years from people who have visited Hans and Donald; they are always rave reviews. Hans’s collection is stunning! And if I recall correctly, he downsized it a bit before the move to the new house.
