Saw an ad for Pacific Sales (a local appliance chain inLos Angeles area) and they showed a FL washer and dryer set for $747. No brand, just said "major brand on it. I'll post a pic, curious to know what brand it ACTUALLY is.

Also, apparently Thermador is back in business, saw ads for ddishwasher, range, ovens, and ventilation hoods from same company.

Thermadore has never erally ever been out of business. That dishwasher is made by Bosch. I'll be curious to see the washer ad pic too.

The "major brand" W&D set (front-load washer, console-mounted controls, IIRC) was probably a Frigidaire. Maybe Pacific Sales withheld mentioning the name to sidestep a minimum-advertised-price rule or something similar.

Probably an Electrolux product...

I recently saw a new set of Gibson front-loaders. Gibson is Electrolux's "lower-end" brand, so that might explain the low price.

Some Home Depots have been selling Danby brand front loaders, for around that price. $400 for the washer, $300 for the dryer.

They are supposed to be good units, made in Slovenia. Only about 1.6 cu ft, but they have internal heaters that can boost to 200F. All that on 110 volts too.

I saw the pair at my local HD a couple of months ago. They are no longer there, but I understand that they can be ordered if someone wants one.

I saw the Danbys at Home Despot too. Seemed pretty well made, and there have been good reviews of these. If I'm not mistaken, the dryer also has reversing action to prevent tangling.

Danby also sells an apartment-sized TL and a twin-tub, both with standard agitators, and both made in China (as opposed to the Euro origin of the FLs). I didn't see either of these at Home Despot.
