I think Water Witch was the name of a wringer washer during the early 1900's. I think Sears sold them before they had Kenmore brand.

Of course, I'm sure there are a lot of other explanations of what a water witch may be....haha.

water witch

I am sure that is a correct answer, but it is not the one I am looking for. Here is a hint: laundry appliance.

LOL ! OMG !

I believe when I was a young boy, 13 or 14, My Aunt and Uncle had to have a new water well drilled on their farm. If I remember correctly they had a "water Witch" come and tell them where to drill. I am almost certain they called this person a "water witch" When I read the subject that is the memory that came to mind. My Uncle told me that this person ( I dont remember male or female) came and with a forked branch walked all around and the fork would go down at different places.

They have a very good well to this day. LAWD, Don't let some of their neighbors find this thread. There will be a witch hunt. LOL

once again, a correct answer, but not the one i am looking f

That is indeed a correct answer, but still not the one I am looking for....a water witcher was one who could find water with a divining rod (forked stick). However, the Water Witch I am speaking of is Sears, Roebuck and Company's name for their wringer washers in the '40's.

sorry, golittlesport.....

.....didn't see your post before I posted my last two....you are the winner!!!!!! I have a Sear's catalog from 1941, and it is fascinating reading to see what appliances were available just before WWII. You wouldn't believe all the different models and sizes of washers, stoves and refrigerators. You could still equip your home with these even if you did not have electricity. Most washers were available with gasoline motors and the refrigerators were available in both gas and electric models, and there were many wood stoves and kerosene ranges available.

Re: Water Witch:

There is a Photo and Info about the Water Witch on;

www.oldwash.com...

Go to the Site and click on Data Base. Scroll down listing of Manufacture Names and then click on the Water Witch. I wasn't too sure how to Link the Water Witch Washer, maybe someone else can check it out and Link it here.
