Mona Lisa Smile, which I watched mostly all the way through for the first time last night. There is a scene where the new bride, in a bad from the start marriage, takes her friend (Let me show you my newest surprise) into the kitchen where she opens folding doors and shows off her WO-65-2 and the matching TR-60 dryer side by side, but in reverse order with the washer on the right so that the dryer doorknob hits the washer front when opened. Somebody was either thinking Maytag or not thinking at all. The surprise after that was a husband who would not have sex with her and was always having to go to New York for meetings.

Yes, Robert's Frigidaires were the stars of the movie.

Faygela?? He was mean to her at the wedding reception, but bought her appliances. Unless really under a lot of tension, I think a nice man, not being blackmailed or extorted, straight or gay, would be nice at the reception. Maybe he wanted to stay in the house by himself with the appliances. Maybe it was a back street affair with a woman. Maybe it was because his mother-in-law was the type that could sour milk by just driving past a dairy farm and she was utzing him through her daughter. Having said that, there are cowards who marry knowing their orientation, because divorced looks better in some places than never married.

There was no rollout date for faygelas and if there had been, it would have to have predated Alexander the Great's birth. There are gay birds, cows and sheep. I wonder if there were gay dinosaurs? Maybe that's why they disappeared; something to do with the temperature at which the eggs incubated made them gay or asexual. The religious people tell us that there would not be anymore children if homosexuals could marry. Maybe they know something about the dinosaurs we do not. At least there would be less bad taste in clothing, design and decor.

His hair was a little too perfect, if you know what I mean.

Ok, Mr. Anthropologizing smartpants, so who put the dryer on the wrong side of the washer? If that's not a sign, I don't know what is.

I need a cigarette...

...where's my bag?

BARRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU SHOULD NOT BE SMOKING! BAD!

As to the placement, ask Robert. They are his machines.

A sign of what? Maybe that's why he was so angry; the house had the washer and dryer connections reversed in the CLOSET! Maybe with the folding doors, the dryer door could not be opened even 90 degrees if it were on the right.

Who's Barry?

When I saw the movie for the first time I thought the same thing, the set designers placed the washer on the wrong side of the dryer. The washer ALWAYS goes on the left!

Robert I agree with you, yet in the houses down here they had the hookups for the washer on the right. I raised a fuss and they finally agreed to put my hookups on the left. Terry

Washer on right seems the most common here, but washer on left does happen occasionally. In most cases of dryer on left, it's to faciliate venting through an outside wall.

Not what I was referring to, but clever etymological work nonetheless.

All three of my houses have had the washer on the left. My parents had the washer on the right.

Rented Prizewinner...it was not as good as I'd expected...I can see why it wasn't released, though. A weird combination of domestic violence and sunny optimism. The book was much better.
