Diomede, this is not about washers, it's an ad for a TV-guide. It says that if you start washing yourself and not longer take it home you should have your own subscription to this magazine.

This picture is originally from the "Stiftung Warentest", a German consumer magazine. At least it has been used for the printed magazines in 2002 for a washer test.
Of course Louis` translation is absolutely right. (Deeply impressed)
Here is the link to the washer test.

Deutsch

Sorry for you Diomede - but GERMAN is the mostly spoken language in whole EUROPE!! More then 120 million inhabitants of Europe speak it from childhood on!
And it is a fault of the Germans that they do not insist more often on speaking more German out of Germany, Austria, Switzerland or Belgium and the Netherlands! German is not a difficult language - not more than English or French! I do speak them both - of course not as good as an English or French man - but German is a very nice language, I can tell you! I also can understand Italian a bit - as well as I speak Spanish and a bit Dutch or Portuguese - so nobody can say I can not compare! The problem we still have, is the Third Realm (Dritte Reich) of Adolf Hitler and the Nazis - they discredited our whole culture in the whole world so much that even today Germans do not try to make the German language and culture as popular as they were before this bad time!
Cheers and a nice Week-end - Ralf

RIGHT Ralf! You cannot imagine how do I miss to speak German too...

Yes, I agree with you! What happened at the beginning of the XXcentury made us to forget the most (IMHO) important culture of the whole Europe...

Guess what... I decided to start learning German and Spanish too!

Well... I miei pił cari saluti!

Ihre Entscheidung ist sehr gut.
What people don't realize is that most Germans today weren't even born yet when WWII was happening. Unfortunately, this is something that Germany will live with until the last person who remembers that war is gone.
Some Americans visiting Europe feel it is safer to speak in a language other than English while visiting Europe. If you know German or French, you can go anywhere.
Personally, I love visiting Germany. We have many freinds there and visit at least once per year. One of our freinds has a Miele washing machine that is at least 30 years old and still running strong!
One of the big problems is that there are people emigrating into Germany and do not even try to learn the German language.
I am hoping that the German language will not get watered down.
