Can anyone give me any feedback on the New FL-Maytag Epic?..I saw the set in Home Depot and was impressed.

It is basically a rebaged KitchenAid Ensemble set, which is now discontinued.

These machines are exactly like the KitchenAid set with a Maytag name on them, i never thought that I would ever see that day. They are quite smart looking. I would have to tell you that they dryer was rather troubleing, as i could not easily open and close the door. The man at Homo Depot told me that they are all like that, he did not have a good expaination as to why.

I looked at one while the HD salesman tried to tell me all about it. It was interesting to see what they have done with the baffles. Do all of the new Duet/HE/Epic washers have these new baffles? I wonder if they reduce or increase tangling? I sure hope that the new baffles that are higher in the back and lower in the front do not mean that they have reduced the amount of water so that there is only water at the back of the drum. I like the clear lens on the door. Those dark ones were like a seat with an obstructed view and the KitchenAid was very dark indeed, almost like the Kenmores.

Actually, these machines are the Whirlpool Duet machines with a slightly different look and the same components-they are also made in Germany, presumably at the Bauknecht facility which Whirlpool bought. The baffles in the one I saw at H-D were the same as the ones in my Duet HT.

Are there tangling issues on the Duet's? The only reason I can think of is that the drum speed is to slow. But tangeld things in a frontloader? Never seen, not even sheets!!

No tangles

I've had a Duet HT since May, and have not had any problem with tangled items.

The reduced baffle size increases capacity, but I don't know what other effect, if any, it would have on washing.

When I was at Nebraska Furniture Mart last weekend, they had two models of the Maytag Epic - TOL had lots of soak, prewash, soak&wash, blah-blah features and the step down model still had "super hot" water temp and sanitary cycle. The pricing of the lower-end model was pretty good, I thought, at only $1019 and $1129 for the TOL.

They are nice looking machines, as were the KitchenAid versions and sitting side by side with the Neptune (Samsung) front-loaders, look to be far and away better in quality. I've had my Duets for going on three years with no troubles.

Do Duets/Epics/Ensembles have tilted tubs? It just dawned on me I've never noticed.

Tangling in a front loader

Askomiele, Maybe because you live in Europe, you probably did not have the experience of washing in a Westinghouse Laundromat with the tub that tilted to the back. It made ropes of clothes, especially sheets.

Tumbler, my Duet is one of the first machines and with a large load, it tangles.

Tangling Duets

It's possible that WP may have changed some motor control programming in the years the Duet has been out, to alleviate tangling. I haven't used mine a whole lot yet as I've been out of town more than in since I bought the machines, so maybe I'm in for an unpleasant surprise-but so far, it's not been a problem.

Tangles

yep, my Duet tangles something fierce. Jeans Legs tangle together. Sweats legs tangle together, shirt sleeves tangle together, sheets can come out tied in a knot. Basically anythiing that has any length to it (30" or more???) can get tangled together. Then again, I do have a tendency to do Bob LoadsŪ in my duets! (45 men's XL t-shirts in one load is my record. )

My KitchenAid Ensemble has the baffles that are low-profile in the front of the tub and higher-profile in the back of the tub. I haven't seen tangling that was any worse than it was with the KitchenAid TL the Ensemble replaced, although I have noticed that in the higher water level cycles (i.e. Delicate) the low-profile baffles don't roll the clothes over if you're only washing a few items. The clothes just float there while the baffles swoosh underneath them. Luckily, I guess, I don't own too many delicates. :)

Maytag Disapointment

johnb300m's profile picture
I was very disapointed that my Local Lowe's didn't have any Maytag Epics on display.

I was extremely upset to see that the line of dryers that Maytag seems to be selling along side their matching top loaders are a bunch of bastard dryers. I checked them out, and they're Alliance Laundry [speedqueen] clones!!!!!!!
Blasphamy!!!!

Whirlpool better straighten this out.
