The poor lady. She's so grim and troubled by the things we love: more lights, more dials, SUDS-SAVER--YAY! the stuff that makes us grin from ear to ear, the poor Dear.

What a perfect pic Robert, esp since there is discussion about spiral vs. staright vane agi's brewing. BUT, as they say in lit crit circles, that POD is very "problematical" The agitator depicted is white, the classic Easy spin standard, but it has a full wide neck which, up until today, i had only seen on the black heavy plastic agi found in the automatics and in late model Easy Spins.
This ad has to be from the mid-50's. The chrome stripes and the stick shift handles on the TT are dead giveaways.

So Bajespuma, enlighten us: Is there some kind of artistic enhancement going on, or is there indeed a wide-necked white metal Easy agitator out there somewhere.

Can't wait to hear the interpretation.

when i was much younger 8 washers 3 dryers

A town we lived in had an old mat and i believe that was the spiralator in the commerical machine, as well. WAS this the one that was the early rebadged westy T/L?

My name is David and I am an Easy freek

I feel woozy 'cuz I love Easy! I would happily work in a prison laundry if they had Easy spindriers.

I wish they would have made Easy spins with a super fast spin like a certain british TT. Can you imagine the spray out of the rinse cone at say 2,500 rpm? Maybe Robert can build us one...

The spiralator that worked the best had the fins flair out from the small cone shaped base. That one turned the clothes real good and would spit in your face, like a beloved camel. Will look for a picture...

I was thinking the same thing! More lights, more dials, more buttons?? Yeah, bring em on.

I don't know but since I've seen this ad, all my agents are looking for the elusive white, metal capped spiralator agitator (in its natural habitat, of course).

grandmother had one

When I was growing up my grand mother and aunt had an easy on the back porch...it was wash rinse spin then out the door to the line. I loved that machine. I was forbidden to touch it..althought when no one was looking I would pump the "stick shift" and wind the timer. After my gm and aunt decided to go modern they start going to town to the mat. The Easy got retired to my aunts basement (you know they never part with anything..working or not). My uncle died last month. After the funeral the Baptist women fixed lunch for everyone at my aunts house. I had'nt been there in at least 25 years...When no one was looking I wanted soooooo bad to sneak down the basement steps to see if the Easy was still there..I know it was. If it had been approproiate I would have asked my aunt about taking it home...but I figured it was one of those things my uncle purchased for his wife and mother and it would have been a bad time for her to think about parting with something. I've kept my eyes peeled for one; however I never see them down south..always seems to be in that far off land we call "up north". If anyone has any pics of Easy..please post them/mark

The Mysterious Missing Spiralator

mickeyd's profile picture
Bjpuma--I don't think it's out there. David's sense of Easy history matches mine.

The first Spirilator was metal white enamel with a narrow base and top; the three unique and beautifully curved "fins" extended beyond the base.
The second spirilator was black bakelite (sp ?) with a wide neck and top, the one you can see in Robert's "See it Wash" Easy.

The white wide neck model in the ad remains unseen.

Mark, go back to that basement. It's got to be there, bet Auntie would be delighted and find it heart-warming to know you want Gram's Easy.

David, what a hilarious and naughty fantasy: a prison full o' Easies

Air, I think you're right--Westy Ramps.

Laundryboy, Check your email. Make youe Easy feel right at home.

Did someone say EASY?

I don't think that this is exactly the Easy that you all are talking about but I thought it was cute as hell and it works very well if you just want to wash 3 or 4 shirts/shorts or a couple pair of pants. I found it, recently, in a fairly high-end antiques store and they looked at me as though I was mentally challenged when I brought it to the desk to pay for it:-)

Here are a few pics!

spin-drying

For a portable it does a pretty good job. I generally use the sink sprayer for a final spin rinse.

Perco-- What a Beauty !

mickeyd's profile picture
Someone took really good care of that baby. Is it fun? Does it spin pretty fast?

Laundress, that's the classic agitator. If you look carefully at the agi in the ad, it has a really wide neck. By the way, is there a way to call up an old POD. Also, what does MIB mean?

Isn't is cool the way the machine in L's post looks just like the mid 50's Spindrier with the spinner chopped off and a wringer added--same signature chrt
ome racing stripes.

I thought that means "Mint in Box".

sooo cool

Now that's what I call a find....how fun...I'd have washed everything in sight by now if I'd brought something like that home. Thanks for sharing the pic...What year do you think it was made. I saw two mini wringer washers at a flea market back in the summer..but never anything like what you've got. have fun/:)m

The funny thing is...

I saw one of these, in terrible condition, in another antiques mall, just about two weeks before I found this one. The bad condition one was either $65 or $86 and it has since sold. Mine was only $25. I don't know what they're worth but I thought that it was a lot of "look" and "fun" for that price and condition!

I don't know what the RPM's are but it spins pretty fast. The clothes are just a blurr as they are in my regular washer. I wouldn't want to stick my hand down in the tub while it's spinning. It's a lot of fun to use! It's great for just a couple of items. I would say a couple of pair of shorts and two shirts. I think that is what I was washing in the pictures!

I have another "mini" washer that I will post pics of later. I have never heard of it and neither have a few washer "experts" so keep your eyes peeled for the Sandusky!

You can find those Easy Whirldrys on eBay once in awhile. I got one that way. It is a fun toy. I believe they were made in the 40's.

From wash to spin!

Push in the little button near the top and lift the tub to the spin level.

Easy made the "wide neck" Spiralator in both bakelite and aluminum. I have seen the aluminum version with a breather hole to prevent pressure building up underneath the agitator and forcing water down the agitator shaft.

Does anyone remember the dismal failure, the Velvapower transmission? Most of these met their demise while still in warranty during the '60's. I think these had the breather to prevent water pumping. The direct drive transmission had nylon gears which softened when water entered the gearbox.

This is strictly from memory, I have not seen one of these in years.

Mike A.

Bingo

mickeyd's profile picture
So there is a wide neck metal ! Is it white, and does it look like the original POD ad for Easies?

Robert fixed his Easy Automatic Velvapower, but if that is the same transmission in the end of run of the Spindrier, (the last models produced with the agitator and the pump running on the same drive), then I understand exactly why is has problems.

I by-passed the drain faucet substituting a hose which I place on the floor. This allows the pump to stay free of water during agitation which is brisk, but as soon as any water lodges in the pump, the agitation reduces gradually to ultra slow, great for sweaters or fragile stuff or filtering the water. It's a lot of fun, a variable speed Easy with recirculation.

That's why Easy Spins are such a blast. They can imitate any procedure from an automatic, including very low water level washing; and the variety of ways to configure the two swiveling faucets is infinite and so much fun to play with.
