Anybody know a source to get a replacement upper rack at a reasonable cost? I'm considering moving the KDS22 that has been stored since Sept 2003 back into my house, for taking my DishDrawer to the new house. The other choice is to swap out the GE Profile talltub that's in the new house, but the KA is a much better match to my 1980s kitchen, moreso than a stainless F&P or GE. The KA with almond panels and a chrome and black control panel very closely matches the Frigidaire drop-in range.

Anyway, the KA's upper rack has a minor bit of rusting and separation of the coating. It's certainly usable, but I don't want to leave below-par equipment to the buyers. A new rack at RepairClinic (choice of two items) is $166 or $196!

Oh sure - there's always some on ebay. Do a search for 'kitchen aid rack(s)' and you'll find more.

cover the spots up!

FSP part #675576 Vinyl Touch-up in "Alice Blue"

Just get rid of any really heavy rust and paint the coating over. I've used this in the past with very satisfactory results

Status Update:

I had a friend bid for me on one of the eBay sales for a rack. And she got it! Shocked me, I have such bad luck with eBay. She has bid on a couple Suzy Homemakers for me, always missed 'em.

I switched out the DishDrawer and KA this afternoon.

Cleaned up the KA, got it connected. The front left corner of the frame where the leg screws in is bent a bit, musta been when my dad and bro-in-law moved it to the garage for storage. I'm not happy about that, but it doesn't affect functionality.

Ran a dose of JetDry dishwasher cleaner. No leaks on the water supply or drain, or pump. Water heating element works. Smells fresh. But the timer got stuck on the main wash at the detergent dispense / water heat increment. Used Cancel to advance it a little, still stuck. More advance, still stuck. Cancel again, and I'd missed the drain period, so it moved on to the final dry increment, and still stuck.

Looked up a timer on RepairClinic. Yikes! Well, it has to be done at this point in the game.

Opened up the control panel, brandished my screw driver at it threateningly, manually advanced the timer to reset, then Cancel again to catch the drain, and it's working again!

Ran several Cancel sequences, then a Quick/Glass cycle switched to Normal with Sani at the rinse, and it went on through perfectly.

Remains to be seen how it does through several more test cycles, but I'm hopeful . . .

Repair Clinic

Repair Clinic doesn't always have the best prices. Try a local appliance parts company, other Internet sites, WP itself, Johnstone Supply
