I remember my Aunt having the white glass cooktop. She took it out because (she said) it took to long to heat, and stayed hot too long after you turned it off.

Does anyone have one of these?

PyroCeran Glass Cooktop

My Grandmother has one on a Whirlpool Upright range from the Late 60's. She has a wood stove as well so I guess she's used to slow heat changes, but she's never complained. In the few times I've used it, it hasnt seemed to respond any differently to a normal electric stove with sealed 'EGO' hotplates.

We had to replace an element a couple of years ago, it has two big and two small elements. The big elements are 3500w and the smaller ones are 2400W.

Just as an FYI the White glass is called Pyro Ceran and the black glass is called Ceran.

I had one in Poppy when I lived in Ft.Lauderdale and not too long ago, maybe 3 years ago,I had the same model in harvest gold. They both worked well but the one in poppy was in better condition(it was never used)and I had the matching 3 door refrigerator, dishwasher,,and Jet action 1-18 washer/dryer.I got them from the Finklesteins who own IHOP.They came in to redesign their 70's kitchen on their yaught.I sold them all KitchenAid appliances to replace the existing Frigidaires.Iwas renting a house and the landlord let me put them in.When I left to move to Orlando,he bought them from me for $1500.I didn't want to let them go but they really looked great in that house!

I noticed that coppertone Skinny Mini with a butcher block top over the washer lid. What a great idea...perfect for a small apartment kitchen to add more counter space when not washing.

Ahh yes, the "corningware" ranges as I called them. When I moved here in 1986, the next door neighbor had a Litton one. Our houses were completed summer of 1984. The current owners replaced it with a Magic Cheff smooth top in 1998 or 1999 because the replacement parts were getting very expensive and it was getting slower and slower with the surface units heating up. Have another friend here whose house was guilt in late 1960s or very early 1970s. Has a GE cooktop version. She loves it. I visited teh Corning Works outlet store in Corning, NY Sept., 1986 and got a "seconds" 10" skillet. Was in a pile marked, "not to be used on CorningWare stoves" because it was not perfectly flat. I wish today's smooth tops would be suitable for CorningWare or Visions cookware. David, Churck, or anyone else for that matter, please explain to me why today's flat surfaces aren't suitable for glass cookware and these old styles were--what's the diff in technology.

A houseful of Frigidaire Appliances.....ahhhhh!!!

I often wonder if GM's thinking in selling off Frigidaire wasn't a mistake, even if the appliance division wasn't making money. Is it me, or does anyone else think having that GM trademark on some great home appliances all across the nation could possibly be subliminal advertising for selling Chevy's, Pontiac's, etc.? Just a thought.

Corningware ranges

Had an Amana corning ware cooktop in a house in the late 70's in New Orleans we had built. Had 3 burners that had to have the corningware dishes and one that you could use metal pans on. It was good to cook on the 3 glass pans only were slower to warm than the one for metal pans. Moved in 1987 due to job situation. Our current home built in 1971 had Frigidaire cooktop and built in oven. Cooktop had only one burner that worked could not find replacement parts so put in a Kenmore smooth top with 5 burners works grat. The Delux 24 inch oven is one of the best still baking in the Brown edged coppetertone. My wife hopes it nevers goes out even though it is hand clean only. The clock and controls still work. This is second best to a double oven P7 we had in another home before we moved here. Had the temp probe and rotiserorie with both ovens self cleaning. Cooktop was stainless and the push buttons for it were on the range/venthood. Bought this from a builder that had built it for his family. Had the ceran countertops in kitchen and bathrooms.

That coppertone range is simply amazing! You can be sure it'd be coming home with me if I found one behind the local app store!

Now the glass tray in the microwave of that second scan looks suspiciously like Amana's Radarange trays. Hmm.

utensils on corningware range

Hi Bob- thought I would stick my two cents in on this one. My mother had a litton cooktop installed in early 80's and loved it. The installer and the manual both said "flat bottom pans only" This also excluded cast iron skillets with the ring around the bottom. Something about the heating causing damage to the glass surface. In addition, you have to wipe up sugary spills, like icing, caramel, etc. as they will pit the surface. And you have to baby the surface with the right cleaner. They are beutiful to look at and probably easier in the long run to clean, but a little fussy for my taste. Mom used those visions cookware and they match the stove so well, just needs to be a flat bottom, thats all.
