Well, it finally happened, my Spin-X exploded! Mom uses it every morning on a load of darks for the day cuz she only has one pair of jeans that fit her "correctly." Anyway, she put her load in as she normally does, closed the lid, and turned it on. After about the first minute of the cycle, the machine made a VERY loud screeching sound and she ran out of the lauyndryroom cuz she didn't know what it might do and as she turned to look at it, the top blew off and shattered. After this, it had pretty much stopped turning so she walked up to it and unplugged it. She left it there and I discovered later that a pair of underwear had flipped out and gone between the inner and outer drums. SO, we think that we are gonna send these pictures to Spin-X and request a new one. I don't think I can live without one now!

One of the reasons why I'm the only one allowed to use my machines (aside from fellow members of course)! :)

Sorry to hear about your machine worries, hope Spin-X does the right thing by you and sends a new machine gratis. However you may wish to look into finding a vintage Hoover TT in good condition. The spin extraction basket spins at about 3,300rpms (or thereabouts) and spins loads nearly dry. Use mine more for the extractor than washer.

Close-up of the drum... You can see the torn up underwear on the floor next to it... One thing I forgot to mention is that the machine whipped itself around too, that's why there is no spout over the bucket in the above pic...

And the plastic breakage, there is more than just that, but it's in itty bitty little bits around the room...

Hi Jamie

I bet your Mums gonna be more than cautiuous even using a new spin x, but when you get it replaced make sure you use a spin mat...(does it come with one)??

I think spin x is the only modern dryer that has a large capacity and 3,300rpm, a Hoover twinny will be a lot smaller in diameter and spins at 2,300 max..

Speaking of spinners, our $129.00 Pakistani spinner is still working just fine after a year and a half. It's loud and obnoxious, but it really sucks the water out of the clothing.
We use it in a spare bath next to the laundry area, just for safety sake. When they do fail, there is a lot of torque to disperse which can result in a lot of energy being dumped into the casing; thereby causing the machine to spin and shed parts.
I am just happy that you mom did not get hurt by the flying plastic debris!
