Can any one tell me about how old this is? Seller claims it was used only used about 2 years... This appers to be from before 1986ish.. Would this be worth trying to save?

mid 80's

Hotpoint looked like this for a long time - the darker side of GE

Actually, it's not a horrible washer - they were fairly reliable and the spiral agitator gave good washing results. This near-BOL machine isn't the most flexible but it's a decent washer.

Thanks... Its near my sister and she's done something to her washer once again, so i am trying to convince her to bid on it...

Junkheap, hardly! In the reliability survey in the February 1991 issue of CR (where they tested washers), Hotpoint had the least amount of repairs, even less than Maytag.

I hope she bids.... Will have to watch and see

I picked up a matching set of those last week, only the washer has the handwash agitator under the regular one. They're a decent machine.

This looks a great deal like the one I bought for my parents in the late '80s, maybe 1988. I think theirs is GE not Hotpoint but I can't remember offhand. I bought it because my dad was a die-hard Kemmore man who loved his old one so much that he refused to replace it even when it was truly worn out and made washing a real chore for my mother. He hated the GE, and does to this day, but that means he never touches it!

The washer and dryer have both been good, reliable units. My only observation is that the washer has developed some rust spots in the cabinet, which surprises me as the Kenmores never did that. My mother did mention some odd noises earlier this year, but she removed the agitator and cleaned it up and that seemed to fix it . . . even if if dies tomorrow it will have run nearly 20 years.

Roger and I here in Tucson each have Hotpoints like the one in the picture. Good, reliable machine.
