OHMYGOD Its the beast that I grew up with... except ours didnt have a heater, The TOL Aussie made heater model was to $$$ for my parents & we had a HUGE off peak gravity feed hot water heater that NEVER seemed to run out. I remember many times opening the lid and holding the "safety" swtich down to watch the beast rumble & whurr thru the loads & loads of washing mum did each & every Saturday!!! Mum was on first name terms with our local Hoover repair man .... he visited about every 6 months to replace the pump... some sort of design fault When I was old enough I was put in charge, sorting the washing into colours & dirt content (Mum & Dad+ 2 kids + 2 dogs + 3 cats = feral dirty washing!) Mum was a firm beliver in Suds/water saving so she & I managed to work out how to save the wash water in the double concrete laundry tubs & trick the machine into sucking it back into the tub... from memory to do it: ensure the washing machine was empty, swing the dial round to almost the end of the spin cycle, place the drain hose into the laundry tub full of washing water and started teh spin... the drain hose would bubble & splutter... stop the machine & the drain hose would syphon the water back into the machine ... top the machine up with more hot water... add the clothes & and some additional detergent start the cycle and away it goes The happy memories come flooding back :-))
