rickr/ Unimatic ,, Robert

Rick I thought the same thing. IIRC Robert usually is more of a washer guy, but this sure looks like the matching dryer to his Kenmore. Looks in good shape too. alr2903

Someone needs to save this beauty, from the seller's auction copy and low opening price, one has the feeling he will put it out on the curb with no reservations. *LOL*

The Drama Unfolds !!!!

rickr's profile picture
I think Robert has had a chance on a match to his 57 LK before and passed. But this one looks to be in REALLY good shape......
On the other hand,if Robert doesn't want it and the owner sets the dryer curbside,Compwhiz can hitch it up to his scooter and drag it home to Burien!!!

So shall we place our bets??? (:

Rick

match to 57 LK

So were there lower models than LK that had the same look?

Appliances On The Curb

launderess's profile picture
Don't know about where everyone else lives, but out here appliances on the curb are stripped/ripped apart not hours after being set out.

Everyone from home-less people looking for copper and other metal bits to turn in for cash to an odd group of immigrant men. The immigrant men try to take the whole appliance (they scour areas with a van, and seem to know days when refuse is put out), or emerge from said van with tools and break apart the appliance right on the spot.

Should add our area has an laws that mean one has to call local sanitation before setting any applinace out for collection. Sanitation then comes and removes chemicals/gases (air conditioners/fridges) and inspects.

It would be ashame if this dryer was chucked to the curb and ransacked.

appliances sitting on the curb

In my area a GE "plastic" washer sat out for a year before someone hauled it away-and yes the machine was vandalized while it was waiting-control panel ripped off it and its front panel removed. Was moved to a woods area by the house (trailer home) for awhile before someone picked it up and disposed of it.I drove by it while going to work and observed its "progress"It didn't appear any parts were taken from it.

Curbed appliances

Fortunately, a "curbed" appliance here in Los Angeles will often sit unmolested for days, especially if it's put out after trash day. Often it will sit until the next trash day, at which time scavengers who go around in trucks and pick up appliances and dead water heaters will get them, or the person has called the City who send out special trucks to pick up large items like furniture & appliances. And even the scavengers take the whole appliance, they don't try to break it up on the spot, and one can often rescue an appliance if it's seen on one of their trucks, since even at $25, it's more $ than they would get from the whole truckload of stuff they are carrying.

Yup that's the 1957 Lady Kenmore dryer, the exact match to my washer. I think I will pass on this one guys, I would consider it if it was closer, but to much $$$$ to ship a dryer.

Robert

Maybe someone coming to the convention that lives in that state could grab it for ya. Or do a state to state truck hop! I would hate to see ya lose it!

1957 Kenmore Dryer

I have the matched pair of Lady Kenmores, in "sunshine yellow" but have never used the dryer as it needed some type of work and I never got around to it for one reason or another. I don't usually use a dryer anyway unless it's wintertime and lousy weather; a dryer in this miserable pit of a Valley is truly an unnecessary "luxury" when it's hotter than blazes for six months out of the year; it's great to have as part of a set, but I don't enjoy paying high power bills. Got my Kenmore pair in SF years ago when an elderly couple traded them in for a newer set to a smaller dealership -- why the hell they wanted to do THAT is beyond me, but their loss was my gain!

ManorAvenue, I know one of the small knobs on one side of the timer dial is for temperature. What's the other one for?

Post# 53421 , Reply# 16   1/14/2005 at 02:36 (7,039 days old) by fixerman ()

The other dial may be a blower control. If it is a high end model such as a Lady Kenmore it probably had this feature. High or low fan speed. They had a double groove blower pulley that was operated by the dial connected to a cable going to the blower pulley. Turn the dial and a lever at the end of the cable moved the belt from one pulley groove to the other to change the ratio of motor to blower speed.

Could it be the start button?

The early Km/WP dryers didn't have start buttons. You just turn the timer dial and it ran.

distance

welllll, dryers ARE much lighter than washers, and I think the rate is by weight.....hmmmm. These don't pass by everyday.

Ken,

For $10 surely you couldn't let this beauty to to the scrapper?

Couldn't you fly/travel up there and crate/pack it yourself and drop it off at a freight depot and ship it to LA, then pick it up there?

Craters and Freighters charge an arm and a leg but there is Greyhound and other shippers no? Also most charge a separate fee to crate, pick up and then there is the freight. If you can do the packing and dropping off it may be a savings.
