Howdy!

I have been looking for a tiny 110v dryer for my shop in the garage. I have very little space, and found this guy on ebay. Does anyone have one? Do they work at all?

Hon, this thing dries a pair of panty hose or panties; not briefs, not boxers, but panties and not large ones, either. It is almost a toy except that it came along when companies were running out of ideas for things to sell. The plastic drum is about the size of saucepan. Being next to useless on the vanity counter, it has absolutely no utility in a garage, not even as a joke.

About the only thing it is good for, if you can get one cheap enough, would be to make a video of trying to dry a rag containing some sort of solvent. The suspense would be whether the solvent would dissolve the plastic or if the machine was able to heat the rag to the point where it would combust. The flames consuming the dryer would be a fitting end for this useless piece of junk.

Sure would be fun to own. I've never seen this marketed as a Sunbeam, only Wagner.

Consumer Reports rated it in the early '70s, and said it would be good for a "bachelor girl" or who wanted a couple of things dried in time for a date.

Sorry, No. Any *girl* who has only one pair of festive panties and is using them that frequently that they can't air-or line-dry scares me.

Similarly if they need heat to sterilize them and or kill any beasties, I'm just as scared.

Beware of the beasties........be very afraid!!!!

This is from the time when Sunbeam was hawking such crappy products that hiring Al Dunlap to straighten out the company seemed like a good idea.

Mmkay?

I have had my dealings with a few 110 dryers. The best one I ever had, which I paid 10.00 for off a junk mans trailer, was a Kelvinator. I bought it only out of curiosity. Well, it worked just fine. I re-sold it for 20.00. It had caster camberr type wheels on it. I almost kept it to carry to the campground with me to dry my clothes when we camp for days on end. I hear it's still working for the guy that bought it after a year or so.

I've just about given up on a dryer for the workshop at this point. It would be lovely, to get the lint off my rags, but then again, the original idea was to have a seperate washer to keep wax and oil out of the main one. Since the rags are clean anyway by the time they need dying, I can use the regular machine by that point. Its probably better to use the space for more workshop.

Now that I have the kenmore to play with, i'll be distracted for a bit... at least once it gets warm enough outside to actually fill it with water without freezing.

Thanks for the input, everyone - especially you Steve!

Actually it probably wasn't a matter of not having a limited supply of undergarments, but a way of drying intimate apparel without all that dripping/tying up the shower rod.

During the heyday of such small dryers as the Sunbeam and "Tidi-Dryer", lots of girls lived in commual settings such as sorority houses, college dorms, or just at home with a large family. It really does get rather weary chasing one's little brother down because he's made a "hat" out of one's bra, that he knicked off the shower rod.
