Here it is as promised- the first wash in the MultiMatic. I was so excited to do a first wash that I didn't do my usual take apart and clean. I just did a hot water wash with detergent and bleach to clean and disinfect it, then did a load of towels. Hope everyone enjoys the pics!

It held more than I had thought-- 6 bath towels, 1 hand towel and 4 wash clothes. I probably could have gotten a couple more towels in if i wanted, but didn't want to overload. I want this washer to last as long as possible.

Throwing the wash water. Boy does it do it fast. I was really surprised by how quick the wash water was gone.

All Done !!!

I'm also suprised how quite this washer is. When it's washing all you really hear is the water splashing from the pulsator. It would definitely give the new FL models a run for their money in the noise level category.

Hope everyone enjoys the pics.
Does anyone know where I might find the missing bleach cup and agitator cap? Any vintage appliance stores that might have them? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks------ Jim

Great pics of a great washer! Hope you have many trouble-free loads----and that you're able to locate a cap for the pulsator. What is the machine, a '62 or '63 perhaps? And if you get time, a shot of the controls would be wonderful.

Post# 184609 , Reply# 13   1/20/2007 at 18:18 (6,304 days old) by scott55405 ()

Very nice machine! Until you can find a cap, you can play "laundromat" LOL (those that remember these in Laundromats remember that the agitators there did not have caps (at least that I ever saw).

If it's a 63, it's a different (plastic cap) than the previous models. I think it may be, since the top part of the agitator looks a little different to me.

So happy to hear it's working as well as it looks! Was this in someone's summer home perhaps? It just looks so pristine.

Congratulations on the maiden load...I've wondered what type of action these 12 lb. 3-ringers have. Definitely a low-mileage machine, and I agree, that Coppertone looks great!

Just a word of caution: someone said on here a while back that liquid detergents and chlorine bleach tend to deteriorate neoprene rubber on these agitators, which is one of the reasons I use powder in mine.

Wow - what a great first wash, and some nice photos! It looks like there is quite a bit more space for clothes with the 12 lb. tub and the late 3 ring agitator - the later Jet Action agitator is HUGE compared to yours! Enjoy ~

The cap screwed into the locked position on these.
Won't look right with a cap on it though as most of the time, back in the day, it would be found in the detergent box for use as a scoop. (An many times accidently got tossed in the trash with the box!). My folks had a '64 WCI and we never put that cap on!

Might take a while to track one down as '63 and '64 Pulsator parts are not as common as the '58-'62, but who knows---someone reading your thread might just have an extra one lying around to donate!

You got a great pair and I know you are really going to enjoy them. Congratulations!

Hey everyone thanks for the great feedback.

- forgot to say what great rollover I get with this machine.

- thanks for the heads-up on the liquid detergent and bleach combo. I haven't heard about that before, but I'll make sure I don't do it any more.

- it's a '63 set

- I think the towels are from Kohl's

Thanks again
Jim

It bourght back great memories for me. weh had that machine until 1985 when the motor went bad. you will love the dryer. it dries fast. ours was the filtraitor one. your set is so beautiful in the copper we had the boring white. very fun washer and great sounds. have lots of fun with it.

Jim and everyone who gets one of the washers, dryers, dishwashers, ranges, ironers, vacuums, coffee makers, etc. of his or her dreams, I am very happy for you. When I would be asked which was my favorite machine, I always said, the one I just received, because I love them all. Somehow, I think that as we gain more members, our positive force for attracting the appliances we want grows stronger. You can't have this many interconnected people obsessing over things from more than a half century ago without causing some ripple in the time-space continuum. Also, we are in more places and thus closer to more hidden appliances which we pull to us like powerful magnets.

Do you realize that we, with the help of the Internet have created a whole new category of collecting and on a scale unimagined even 25 years ago? We did not have the comfort of falling into an established category of collecting like so many who chose stamps, coins, candlesticks, etc. We are the people who gave these heretofore utilitarian objects that were junked at the end of their usefulness, worth and have done a lot to establish our own self worth. We have caused other people to notice our collectibles and help us find them. We are the ones who have researched and documented appliances for ourselves and others; putting together in one place knowledge that had to be mined from scattered and obscure primary sources. We also have an important collection of oral history, first hand accounts of these appliances when they were new and in use. This is the group that receives the notices that people are making available something we might want. We are the ones the museums and motion picture production companies turn to when they need authentic properties. I would say not bad, not bad at all, for the group teased and worse for our special interest that we seem to have had from earliest childhood. We have accomplished at lot and are quite an accomplishment ourselves.
Tom
