I want to share a story about a problematic Maytag Neptune washer.

A few years ago a co-worker of mine had problems with his less then 3 year old Neptune front load washer, turned out main circuit board failed. It was replace ($$$ out of pocket) and the washer worked again. Then nine month later, same problem! He (my friend) was frustrated and unsure about what to do about it. Mean while 4, then 5 weeks go, his wife is now making regular trips to the local laundromat and the Neptune is just sitting there.

I suggest he contact Maytag (write a letter) to see if there is anything they would do to help. He agrees. Two more weeks have gone by and he's done nothing. I then offer to write the letter for him and decide I would send it directly to the (then) president/CEO of Maytag.

The letter following is what I wrote and sent off……..

April 12, 2004

Mr. William L. Beer
Maytag Corp.
403 W. Forth St. N.
Newton, IA 50208

Dear Mr. Beer,

My name is Glenn ******, I’m 44 years old and I am writing you to share my experiences with Maytag products. For as long as I can remember there have been Maytag appliances (washer & dryer) in my life. My parents have had them since I was born and while a teenager they were replaced with new Maytags.

When I bought my first house, it came with a washer & dryer and though not Maytag, I used them until the washer died less then 3 years later. On September 4, 2000, I bought a new Neptune washer and matching dryer (MAH4000AWW & MGD4000BWW) and was happy to have Maytags again.

Happy again until the first time I used them. The igniter in the (gas) dryer was faulty and the dryer did not work! It was repaired 4 days later under warranty, but this still left a sour taste in my mouth. Even after the dryer was repaired, it’s been much noisier then I think it ever should be (as if something were loose).

Then in early June 2003, 2 years 9 months after they were delivered, the main circuit board in the washer failed, causing the washer to stop working. It was repaired at a cost of nearly $300.

This brings us to today. The dryer is still working (albeit noisily) however the washer, only 9 months after being repaired, has failed again. The repairman inspected it and said it’s the same problem as 9 months ago. I don’t know that I want to repair it again. Will I have to spend $300 every 9 months to keep it running?? Or maybe it will be the dryer next time??

I am sorry to say that the trust I have had in Maytag products for many, many years has faded completely since buying my Neptune washer & dryer 3 years, 7 months ago. If I decide to replace rather than repair the washer, it will definitely NOT be another Maytag product.

Respectfully,

Glenn *******
(address, etc)

Well my letter worked!! About two weeks later he received a phone call from the local repair company saying they had a NEW circuit board for his machine and they will come out and install it at no charge!!! The washer is still working today!

What a happy ending....

Bought my Neptune in August '97 and in October '05 had the circuit board and wax motor fail. Repair cost around $350 and no compensation from Maytag.

Still going strong today along with my new Maytag DC TL.

So GadgetGary,...how do you like your new Maytag TL washer? I might have missed this in another post, but does this current DC unit have the spray rinses? How has cleaning performance been?

Enjoy it and hope you get years of trouble free service.

I really like this Maytag TL. It is the very first Maytag TL that I ever owned(a certain TS influenced me in getting it).

Yes, it does have the spray rinses between the wash and rinse, the final spin, and the extra rinse.

Cleaning performance is fantastic....after all it is a Maytag DC.
