Recently acquired this set on E-bay. Both are in great shape and need no repair. In fact the guy was washing his sheets when I got there to pick them up. I guess he didn't have time the night before !!??

Options selection buttons. Love the "stainless steel look". So in vogue right now. Except these are just stained. Don't know what's on the control panels. Hope to be able to get it off with a little elbow grease.

Just love when they have the lid instructions.

Interior shot with the famous "burpilator" lint filter.

Unique design Norge agitator. Made to move a whole 20 lb load.

Slide out bleach dispenser. Doesn't dilute the bleach, just dumps it into the outer tub. But still fun.

Jim, congratulations, a REAL NORGE!!! Funny, those preprogrammed buttons haven't changed since the 1967 models lol.

Congratulations!
Those old 'Noge "Burpalators" were great machines!

Great set! And I love the large lint filter on the dryer. The filter on my Frigidaire is about 1/4 that size. It's almost always overloaded with lint when I dry a large load of towels. Anyway, congrats! And don't let the brake startle you when you lift the lid during a spin, LOL.

BAM, SCREEECH!

Jim, great set, congratulations. An older perforated-tub Norge is another machine I don't have yet and hope to acquire in the future; I'm looking forward to playing with one in Tucson. I have seen one pair in Texas from about 1981 or so, but since I was already out of room as it was I passed it up. They look like they're in good shape for their age. I'm guessing these are mid-70's since the washer has the slide-out bleach dispenser?

Jim - conrgats! Nice matched pair there. I've actually never seen a perforated Norge machine in action - so you'll have to provide lots of pictures!

Those are NICE

I had the Magic Chef version right after maytag acquired them, the burpalotor filter was gone and the door opened to the back. This would of been around 1990. The agitator was like the one in the picture, it was very Powerful, washing a king size quilt or mattress pad was never a problem. The chef version of the dryer, unlike the picture had the stationary bulkhead in the back of the drum. Only matched set i ever bought that the washer outlasted the dryer. Poor Maytag was pretty good at guttin out a company too

I wonder why the fist extraction was "extract" and the final one was "spin"? I guess kind of like Frigidaire's "dry".
Of course some machines had "spin dry".
(Who is on third?)

I guess the designers assumed that most Americans did not know the meaning of "extract"?
Or in this case, only half of them.

I had the Montgomery Wards version of this set, circa 1985. It was great, I wish I had kept it. Very powerful washing action, be sure to wash knits on a delicate cycle. The matching dryer is a positive air flow design, and blows hot air in, instead of sucking it through. It needs the lint cleaned out of the outer cabinet frequently, but it was a very fast dryer.

Is that a fill-flume in the back?

toggleswitch's profile picture
or a recirculator?

On my mom's Norge it was recirculation. There was no burp-alat-in' in my childhood!
..and BOY did I get into trouble when I opened the lid during spin and BANG! went the spin-solenoid/brake!
IIRC the belt configuration/location is under the base, like a Maytag!

CONGRATS WHAT A PAIR!

Hey guys thanks for all the great feedback. The wash action is indeed very powerful. And yes, that is a fill flume not a recirculator. The first time I lifted the lid during spin and that tub brake hit I almost sh*t !!! But boy that tub stopped in 1 sec flat.
I purchased this set from a guy that just bought a home from a 90 year old widowed gentleman. The set came with the house. The guy that bought the home didn't want the set because he already had a new washer/dryer set. So the set was basically one owner. I'll be posting wash pictures soon.

thanks-------- Jim

Steve, as long as I have been around perforated Norges & Monkey WArds' cousins, the first spin had extract. I know the 63/64 Monkey across the street had a very narrow "ext" on the tiemr dial for the drain period after the rinse, but had spin following that segment. On our 1964 DispensoMat, there wasn't an "ext." on the dial after the rinse, but the shade of blue at that point was also the same shade of blue behind "Extract". And that was an awesome 4 minute rinse. Softener was dispensed during the last minute.

Re: What year it is ?

I'm going to say that I think it was proballey a 1980's to mid 80's somewhere around 83 I'm guessing.

Are these the Magic Chef ( pre maytag) or the Fedders made machines?

Norgeman, not really sure on the date but I think that these are early 80's. If I find out I'll post the actual date.
