Hello everyone, I thought this might be fun. I absolutely love the old square door frontloaders. Unfortunately, they are pretty rare now. There are of course many makes with square doors, Creda, Hoover, Servis, Bendix etc.. Do you know anymore and have any pics? Here are some of mine. The first is a Creda brochure sent to me by someone on here. I hope they don't mind me sharing with you (can't remember their username to check). The Creda machine had a 25 min profile spin. Any other pics or comments would be greatly appreciated. |

Throwing in my two pennies worth - loving this thread. Is this a compact one - or the one only slightly smaller than the normal machines? Would love to know more about these early servis autos - particularly the compacts. |

Hi Seamus That kitchen was like "Optical Aerobics", Marley flooring, Crown paper and also the ubiquetous Russell Hobbs K2 kettle...LOl The washer was bought in 1978, mums first automatic, previous machine was the Servis Supertwin MK2, which served 6 of us since 1963...I had just started work and bought mum the dryer to match for her birthday, (from Rumbelows)...I replaced the set for them in 1987 with a 6033 pair in dark grey (still working & current) when working for Currys as I had a fab staff deal. I replaced the bearings in the 308 above and passed it to my gran (that was her first auto washer) and it passed to her sister, my great Aunt, in 1991 after Gran died....this machine, and my Great Aunt Bess at 92, are still going strong and working well... Replaced by the 6033 Quartz... |

Rob, dont you think those early Creda square door machines are just like the later Hoover models??? Nathan, New World where made by Creda, also badged as Jackson as well, that large Creda was one of the most efficient dryers in its time until the Servis models came along.... Paul, The Servis MK72 is the second front loader made by Servis UK, the first was the Compact 300 in 1970, this had a Silver and dark Chocolate/Purple control bezel, and had vertical switches, I have the MK75 dryer to match the 72, both of these were compact machines H30inch x W 22.4 x D 22.4, the later 308 slimline machines were made to cabinet height by adding the dark brown plinth.. The beauty about the 308 / 9 machines was that the drum suspension mounts where bolted to the plinth, and you can take away the cabinet and the drum still works, rather like the ASKO.... Darren, Jon - you NEED to keep that Servis...LOl Greg / Louis, Those adds always make me laugh... 1950`s = Court Shoes 1960`s = White stillies 1970`s = Killer Heels....lol Happy washing, Mike |

How do Mike, Would this have been Servis' very first tumble dryer then, which matched the 300 compact? So we have the: 300 compact MK72 compact Mk308 Slimline......you can see where this is going!!!! |

Hi Darren, at least we have All the colours covered...LOl, but they are the same machines inside , and the compacts took the same 9lb load etc..funny to think that the first Bendix 9lb load non bolt down, with damper suspension was 27 inches wide as opposed to the Servis at 22.4inches... Paul, I`m having a senior moment, either that or am typing so fast I`m betwixing things... The order is: Servis MK 72 produced 1972 Servis MK300 produced 1976 Servis MK308 produced 1978 My, where Is that dryer??? that is the dryer to match the MK300, but Servis did two earlier dryers, the first one being in 1963 called the Supa Dry, This was a Solid Full door dryer, similar to the old Burco models, all the controls where behind the full door so its looks plain from the front, the second was a model in black and white, same style as the compact, but was produced between 1966 & 1968... AND yes I see where this is going...LOl |

Oh wow! What an fantastic set you have there mark. I think my ideal set up in my garage would be to get the logic back to heath and get the matching dryer. also get the matching dryer to my servis. The problem's i have are i desperately desperately want something new & i've been told a 3rd set is not allowed..though i've done this twice and currently have 3 lined up lol. So im really frustrated and unsure what to do. The 3rd machine is just a dead hotpoint thats awaiting to be burried. I just havent had the time or the help to skip it. I had a conversation with a friend from the states who owns a frontloader. I said that i think frontloaders would've had a much better impression on guys stateside if they were introduced in the 80s. Because like everything they were so much better. Anyone agree? *Sigh* y'know one day there gonna have to start making really decent machines again. Without having to pay the £500+ price. hopefully. Can you imagine a modern square doored machine? I think the closest to it are the hoover nextras & hotpoints. Though i think a modern square door for a machine would have to be slightly curvey to fit in with modern trend. Darren |

is that the compact version? it looks small and ive never seen the compact before. My Maternal Nan has the full size dryer version still going strong from 1983! These were the matching dryers to the Original Quartz although not computer controlled, it always looked the part stood next to the 602/3 circa 1983! The 602/3 was going strong in 1995 or so when it was replaced with a Homark built in washer in the phase of a kitchen re fit. the dryer was kept and put in their garage. The vent hose was never permannently plumbed in to the kitchen and was used with front vent, metal clip to connect the hose out the kitchen window. I used to love playing with that metal clip thing along with the U syphon off the FS compartment. Id much prefer one of these Quartz's with that black control panel, and plastic coated metal lid than the much later model Darren, Newwave1 has from 1987+. But alas them models are rare! Also it was great to see the Servis hose above with the 2 different shaped plastic ends..... Memories I can tell you. Nick |

just remembered to post my Nans Quartz had the silver door rim, similar panel to the Quartz Rob posted but with the red prog select LCD, the same one that can be seen in Haynes Washing Machine manual in the Electronic Programmer Chapter. Probably still going strong somewhere too as they sold it on to some friends..... it never had a repair until they got shut of it despite having a toddler - 11 year old LOL fiddle with it weekly! One of the things i loved about my Zanussi ZWF1440 was that when the door lock release/lock click clacked it was the same tinny noise that the Quartz Door Release mechanism made! Nick |

becuase on closer insprection and bespectacled the Original Quartz Darren and Rob posted are nothing like, My Nan had the one with each prog option button in its own beige line coloured rectangle. Each button had its own light IIRC and then there were programme progress lights too. Bio Half Load Econ? Drip dry Cancel which when pressed sent the machine into Drain while the drum stood still, you could do this with the door open too. I forget the others, but anyway it was the same as they Haynes manual one. Il look in the library for it tommorrow. Nick |

Mike, NO WAY NO WAY NO WAY!!!!!!! Thats the One!!!!! Breathe Nick Breathe!!!!!! Oh the memories. Darren you seem to have your dates mixed up, the Quartz 600 - 603 as in Mikes pictures ran from 1980 to about 1985 or so IIRC and the later Quartz model like yours came in from 1986/7 so indeed yours is very late 80s and no older give or take a few months than your Logic. Im sure a couple of members can vouch for my information, and my Nans Quartz was bought in 1983. Didnt the model numbers for the early ones run with the year? So those made in 83 would have been a 603? Nick |

Darren yours is a 6033 as Mike said he bought his mum the exact same machine in 1987. as his post above said. I didnt make myself clear sorry, im talking about the original 600 3 digit/number series, 600 was 1980 602 1982 603 1983 the 4 digit 6033 like yours came way later and at a guess im working out that its was a 603 1983 plus 3 (the 3 in years) to make it 1986 But I can assure you Darren the Quartz you have is really no more than 20 years old maximum. Here is a guide from 1985 which shows Darren's 6030. Not sure how long before this, this particular machine was made. I absolutely love those old Bendix. They were very quiet and quite stable. It had two dials. The one of the left selected the programme and the one on the right was the timer. This was a great idea as it allowed you to start any programme at any point you wanted. Rob |

And I can see the original door design which is the same as our Bendix. OOO what year are they? Here's my Square Door Square Window addition: |

Hey Guys All the Uk Bendix machines above were indeed made in Italy by Philco - They were fantastic machines, super quiet induction motors, large capacity(for their time) and fantastic results. There was an early 80s ad that illustrated how quiet they were by showing a baby sleeping sat next to a Bendix on spin LOL!! Seamus |
