I think that there are many here that would love to collect vintage appliances, but they are just not able to do so. Lack of space to store/keep them, lack of support from their "other half", perhaps not being able to find replacement parts, the time to restore them,or not being able to service the machines themselves are some of the reasons that some don't "go for it" when vintage machines do turn up. Those that cannot collect still have an interest in vintage appliances, otherwise they would not be here at all. |

Elitist club? Not hardly! I've met and made friends worldwide, and locally through this club. I sell used appliances as a sideline, don't really have a collection per se. If I find something vintage, a picture of it usually appears here, and it's offered to those who frequent this site. Many a washer and dryer that would have been scrapped have gone to people here that appreciate vintage machines. For not much money. Sometimes vintage machines go by the wayside because the local collectors don't want them, have no place for them, or the owners want outrageous money for them. As much as we'd like to, they all can't be saved. kennyGF |

Good points Austin, but remember how costly shipping these items can be. Some may not be able to "swing it" when the item shows up half way across the country, and has to be "gone" within a few days. Perhaps they just had a large car repair bill, put a new roof on the house, or have a couple kids in college. Maybe they just cannot justify spending that much to transport an item that they can easily do without. Most people already have working appliances in their home. It's sort of like having a vintage car. Most everyone likes to admire them/ride/drive them, but they don't really want the commitment of owning one. And thats cool. Couple other things to remember about that pink set in Michigan that went to the crusher. It was a BOL set, and it was a Multitragic washer. Am sure if that washer had been a Unimatic, or an Imperial set many people here would have been "on them" including myself. <: |

The Multi-Tragic name was born from seemingly endless hours of work on my 1959 - the first of the mechanism and probably the worst. The Multi-matic mechanism wasn't the worst ever, but they had lots of problems with the Rapidry spin shifting clutch and by late 1962, it was removed completely from the line bringing the max spin speed down from 850 RPM to 710 RPM. In 1964 when the Rollermatic mechanism was introduced, it was interchangeable with the multimatic machines so it could replace a troublesome mechanism in an earlier washer. I like to think there was a great sigh of relief when service techs got this revelation from Frigidaire.
