I recently purchased a 1955-built home from an estate and it came complete with a working Bendix Duomatic. Probably is original to the house. I have no room for it, SO, it anybody interested in buying it? It's extremely heavy, have photos on request. It's still a nice piece of laundry equipment.

The picture really doesn't do the machine justice. It's a great piece of laundry equipment!

Hey Jon,

I'm not positive, but I *think* this is the same one, judging by the picture.

Hi Decodriveboy. I do not think you will find another machine that is closer. It is a rare machine. You can contact
Beltmann Shipping and check on the cost or perhaps get a truck but it is a very heavy machine. In any event, when you find a rare machine like that, you will seldom find it nearby.

Original Owner

Hey Guys
I purchased the house & the Duomatic from the estate of a Mrs Breumer. I spoke to her daughter yesterday and she told me her mother bought the machine brand new when they moved into the house in the 1950's. She had the instruction manual until she cleaned out the house. The only reason the Duomatic wasn't hauled to the curb was because it was too heavy to move. Kornmeyers Furniture in Baton Rouge sold the machine originally, and is still in business.

Ross is right

I have several Duo's and couldn't get along without one.
Once they come along someone should grab this. Craters and Freighters is in Baton Rouge. The trick with CnF is to tell them you want this on a pallet and that it is not an antique.
No shipper will handle an item classed as antique.

If it was a 1956 Duo I would consider the trek for sure, since that is my "dream machine".

Someone else deserves this baby. I know one of us members won't allow something this rare and gorgeous to pass by.

More Duomatics?

Okay guys, I spoke with the 88-year-old lady who lives across the street from me; she is an original homeowner from 1956. She told me that the builder offered original buyers their choice of a Bendix Duomatic or a Fridgidare home freezer & fridge if they purchased one of the deluxe homes in our subdivision priced at $13,500. She chose the Duomatic and still uses it every day. There are probably a couple others in our neighborhood as there are still some elderly original owners living here. Something to think about.

Be sure to stay in touch with that lady! She could get some good $ for that Duomatic--namely, from ME! :)

Decodriveboy

My neighbor says she's going to live to age 98 so she has 10 more years use for the Duomatic.
I'm going to ask at our next Resident's Meeting to see who else in the neighborhood still has a Duomatic or any original appliances. I know of at least two original Tappan cooktops & matching wall ovens on my street.

This is such a gem. I am still trying to figure out whether it is worth spending the shipping the costs to Canada...Crazy Eh! My partner considering to get it for me for my Bday!!! This is the exact model my parents had when they got it...since I was 8 I wanted one of these Duomatics..

Good luck on the Duomatic Steven, it would look right at home next to your mint '55 Frigidaires! I'd get it for none other than the splashy washing action and the cool "jet-engine" controls!

Question for Jon, Greg, John (gyromatic), or Robert: what year is this one? For some reason, I keep thinking 1958, but could it be earlier?

Aw, its too cool! Im too far away. This is not fair. The washing machine cards of fate are not in my neighborhood attall as of late. :(

hmmm.........or maybe captain moody is snatching them all up! That must be it.

Hi Austin

jetcone's profile picture
That Duomatic is a 1957 since it has the black buttons. The 1958 year DUo's have colored buttons, the 1956 models had the controls mounted up underneath a chrome strip.

"Philco-BENDIX" Duomatic

Has to be from about mid-'57 at earliest since it shows the word "PHILCO" in their usual tiny block letters above the large, florid "BENDIX" signature; remember Philco bought the Bendix home laundry line from Avco Corporation in early 1957...there was a thread on it on this website previously...
