Heavens!

What's with all the NIB stuff lately? First the Frigidaire stove, then the Maytag, and now this.

Looks like it's going to be a good Spring!

Hi Steve. Perhaps you could store the set in a garage or basement and hook it up in your new place when you are settled in. Sounds too good to pass up.

I got pictures tonight from the seller - apparently he's looking for "best offer" but didn't say if he's had any other interest. 1966 models, washer is a 700 series.

New - there are lots of pics but I'll only post a few. The books, legs, hoses, etc. are all original and still in packages!

Wow, those are beautiful and DEFINITELY worth saving (especially over that overpriced 'Tag). Too bad they're not a step above, the 800 series...we all know someone who would pass out on the spot! Who knows, maybe he's done that already since it's still a NEW late-60's Kenmore, tee hee ;-)

OMG that was my EXACT childhood washer that I grew up with.

Here is a picture I took in 1976 of it when I was 13 with my brand new 110 Kodak Camera...

This is amazing to see it brand new again, I remember the day it was delivered in January of 1969. Dad got it on sale as a last year closeout at the Sears in New Bruswick, NJ. I can still smell the brand new washer smell, it is something I will never forget.

That little book that is attached to the dial I still have today. I used graphics out of it to make our Suds-Lock Man and Not Logged In Buzzer Man here on the site.

That dryer is hard to find- I hope somebody grabs it! For some reason, a lot of LK washer owners cheaped out when it came to the dryer, so matched pairs with the LK dryer are not common in my experience. Oddly, this customer seems to have done it backwards- they purchased the TOL dryer to go with a 700.

OMG!

I bet it still has the new washer smell.

It MIGHT need a new belt and that's all. I bet it will work right out of the box.

This is a beautiful set. And yes I will always remember the fresh smell of a new washer. Their is nothing like it.
And Steve Gyrafoam I wish it was possible to saw a hole in the wall and replace my LG with this or something considered unique like a Bendix but thats only a dream.
Best Wishes

Questions?

I think I'm going to bid on these, and finally get my first vintage set. Does anyone know what would have to be done to get these in order. I am not a handy person at all, could a service person do a once over to make sure they are all ready for use. Does anyone know the widths of these units? Thanks!

Well, I'll have to think quick about it...but I'm still looking for my dryer to go with my 1-18 and I'd rather use the bit of funds I have to have that shipped here...

Thanks for the map! ---- James

Oh Robert...

Ain't that Kenmore of yours just a little overloaded?

But then it looks like you held down the water level switch to get a high fill. That kinda doesn't work well with a Roto-swirl, I find. It just makes the clothes float. The PERFECT water level I've found on my Frankenmore is the water should stop filling halfway between the top of the fins and where the the agitator begins to taper off.

It's hard to tell with mine because I do have the large tub, not the standard one that the RS was really made for. Now if I got Helen's Super Duty Surgilator from her old WP, THAT's a different story.

Post# 202290 , Reply# 27   4/8/2007 at 15:17 (6,221 days old) by bobbins (Victoria, BC, Canada)

I thought it was just me that had fond memories of the Kenmore smell. I remembered my parents new Kenmore with a Gold Roto-swirl...such a wonderful fragent...didn't last too long after serveral loads of laundry...GREAT MACHINES!

So was it the gold colored Roto-swirl agitator that caused that fragrant? or a combination of new hoses, paint, etc....

Bob

Wow Robert, that is too neat, and a great picture. Is it just me or does it look like your old '69 Kenmore could have used a lid check adjustment as well? ;-)

Our childhood machines definitely have a special place. You should go for it! Just think, you could relive the memories all over again, complete with new washer smell...

Post# 202294 , Reply# 29   4/8/2007 at 15:27 (6,221 days old) by westytoploader ()

Jason, I found that to be the same when I had it as well...the water level just above the ramps resulted in excellent dip-roll action. I tried the Super Roto-Swirl in my 24" and the action was better with the maximum water level due to the standard-capacity tub. But if not overloaded (and not containing bulky items like jeans), it's a very capable agitator in the large-capacity tub. Although as Roto-Swirls go, I think the earlier pregnant one does a better job overall.

I agree about the Double-Duty Super Surgilator...that thing can make clothes MOVE no matter what the load consists of. With the small tub on the 24" the action is amazing; I've overloaded it slightly and it still turns over well. The earlier bakelite Surgilator wasn't a bad agitator either. I'm curious to try the 70's Surgilator (non-winged) with the fins protruding slightly from the base.

super duty surgilator

Helen's machine had the MONSTER version with the large fins and wings on the bottom. Here's a video from one year ago today on Easter morning at Helen's old house.

*BLUSH*

Do you say that to all the boyz?

It's not the size of the stip, but the motion of the agitator. That is what determines how well your load gets done.

Austin, that was the exact washer, and matching dryer (although it could have been a 70 pair instead of 700), that my cousins bought when they moved into their first house, that sudivision you like that was behind the one I grwe up in (Memorial Bendi I think it's called).

OK, HERE I AM!!!! The Seller.....In the flesh!!!!

I can't believe the amount of hype these two old hunks of junk caused!! Just kidding, I'm enjoying the stir that they're causing. So, le me answer a few questions....They are in NY, on Long Island...One family story is, they were bought by grandma behind old paws back, delivered, brought into the basement, and as the story goes, grandpa flipped out and never let her use them...he refused to hook them up. So, there they sat. Years have passed, I took over the house after they both passed away and I find these 2 beauties under a cover. To me they were in my way, so I moved them and just let them sit more....now, years later I decide, enough, I'm not a collector, and I should probably just sell them......and here we are. They are the same ones on e-bay, dryer is electric, All the manuals, feet, 3 prong electric adaptor are all in sealed bags. There's even a mystery bag. A brown paper bag, stapled shut, and I have no idea what's in it. I'm not opening it till the day I sell these. I do have a bunch more pics that i just took the other day if anyone wants to see more. They are away & covered, but there's some stuff in front of them, so to measure them would be a little bit of a pain. I'd measure them for a buyer if there was a serious offer ready. Any other questions, I'd be glad to answer.....oh, and any offers??????? Thanks Phil

These need a lighted controls certification....

It may not be obvious on the washer, but the timer dial illuminates against a matte aluminum background and looks really cool with good detail. Dryer is lighted too.

So out of curiosity, what machines were being used that were intended to be replaced? I have heard a few stories of really tight men....er make that CHEAP men..that did not allow a W or D in their own home. (UHHHM you are spending MORE at the laundromat and paying for someone else's utlity bills, rent, overhead, salary, maintenance, etc.)

and yes Austin nothing like a LADY!
See linkie.

ANT1=> "ANTENNA" Network (a station)

AMAN - "kane me na noiwsw gynaika"
AMAN=> "OMG" It's the name of the show.
The rest of the title says "Make me feel like a Lady"

Scenario, supposed to be a man and a woman.
She says finally "What are you waiting for, clown? Make me feel like a Lady; a real woman"
"Ok you wanted desired it" he says.

Wow! Pictures And Videos.

This wins my vote for the Thread of 2007.

Gorgeous Kenmores. My neighbor across the street had a dryer that just about matched that washer, except hers may have been a model 70. It had the small size hamper door.

The dryer looks familliar. It was that LK dryer that was in the Keaton's back vestibule on the comedy series Family Ties (Seasons 2-end of show).

Hopefully somebody snatches them up quick, and puts them to use!

Good Luck,
James

In my personal opinion, they're worth what you listed them for (perhaps a bit less), but I find it odd that they're not getting any bids. Someone's who lives in or near the Northeast is bound to want and have room for a never-used 60's Kenmore set...

Phil - I sent you an eBay email last night asking if you would sell only the Dryer. I realize you've listed them as a set but do not have room for both the Washer and the Dryer- thus my question. As Westy mentioned they are collectible but imho wouldn't expect to get say like $1000 for them (it could happen, depends on the buyer, won't be me though). Shipping will be expensive, probably $400+ each (I've shipped an appliance using Creighters & Freighters).
If you would rather wait for someone to buy them as a set I understand, so am looking forward to your reply. Thanks, Robert

Isn't it Overloaded?

Robert,
I thought the load you were watching in Ross' Thor was too much for the old fella, but now, to see a picture from your childhood, it appears the base line from which to determine "overloaded" may be a learned trait. Your mom wasn't Roberta, was she? Perhaps Bobload is not gender specific.

Silly Boyz, I just took the picture, Mom loaded the washer. Since it was my first time ever taking a picture I'm sure I was more concerned with the camera than the washer. How fitting that my very first picture was of a wash load. Don't even ask me what picture #4 was.
