While going through an old trunk at my parents this weekend I found some old pictures (see thread 11235). In the bottom for the trunk was an old newspaper put out by Westinghouse Feb. 21, 1934 anounccing the opening of the "House of Tommorrow". It goes into detail about all the labor saving devices that an electric house can provide. Here is the section on the laundry room.

copy reads 3 washing units, I was wondering if this came in 2 or 3 pieces and maybe one seamless top added after everything was in position, Can you imagine trying to move this bad boy, through narrow halls and doors? Bet it was a huge deal in the 1930's though.

I wonder how they drain the machines. They must be hooked up to plumbing---I don't see any drain hoses running to the sink. I'll bet housewives (and guys into washers) looked at that setup and drooled.
