Saved it! Can someone tell me a little more info on this model?

I asked the guy for its washer mate, but...this was all that was left :(

Got a ticket going to pick it up too! Grrr. But it's a beauty and adds a nice retro touch to the house. Haven't hooked it up or run it yet, but it supposedly works fine.

For the size of the door, this machine has great capacity. It is also relatively quiet!

I believe the heater box is mounted in the front of the dryer (I want to say front left, but could be either side). Lint screen throught the access panel under the door. I believe there is also a drum light that can be rigged to stay lit throughout the cycle.

Thanks

...and you are right, the capacity is very large on the inside. Quite deceptive from that little porthole window.

Heater is in the front on the right side, blower fan is in the upper left corner - no lint screen. The heat/air flow pattern is similar to a 29" Whirlpool dryer except in front of the machine rather than the back.

The capacity seems larger due in part to the small opening - it makes the tub seem gigantic but it was quickly overloaded with more than a 9lb washer load. I had this model in electric, replaced all the felt seals, made sure it didn't leak around the door, etc. and it was still the slowest dryer I've ever used, I couldn't even imagine using it with a bolt-down Bendix washer. It doesn't matter really, it's cute as a button!

Congratulations on a great find. Looks like the mate to this dryer would be the Bendix Economat -- the one with the rubber tub. At least the controls look similar. I've seen only one other and have never seen one in use.

What a cute machine and in such wonderful condition. Any story that goes with it concerning its history?

The only thing I know is that it is originally from Michigan, and was still in use up until very recently. The guy who sold is to me had transported it to Florida and had it sitting in his garage.

I would like to hook it up and give it a test run, but my laundry area is actually in a closet in my room and I'd have to move the modern machines out first. And let me tell you, that dryer is H-E-A-V-Y!

But be sure when I do, I will provide everyone a full report! :P

Another thing

I forgot to mention....inside the basket it has a very nice, antique-y smell! Kind of an old, dusty, powdery-sweet scent, like Grandma's house I guess :P

HMMMM heated zinc smells like that to me. I wonder if it's the galvanized metal that smells nicely?
