Hi everybody,
Can somebody put here catalogues of washing machines from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and begin 90s????
It would be great if we had here catalogues of washing machines....
It doesn't matter which brand it is or country.

Thanx

More pictures from Philips catalog

The above picture is from a Philips catalog printed in 1978. The following is from a Philips catalog dated 1973

Philips dishwasher from 1973

Next picture is about a Philips dishwasher of 1973. All Philips machines were actually Ignis machines. Philips brand then changed to Philips/Whirlpool during nineties. The brand Philips was then dropped and machines are now branded with just the Whirlpool logo. The Ignis brand, not so popular nowadays is still surviving.

An Indesit dishwasher

This is a picture of an Hirundo dishwasher (Indesit). It was a cheap and very popular dishwasher. It is from mid '70s

More Hirundo washing machines

And this is the cheap model. The most peculiar thing about this machine is it didn't have the usual drain pump. The pump was operated directly by the main motor shaft so the machine drained only during the spin cycle. It was a lot of fun seeing the machine spin start with all the water in the drum!

Not very popular and (I guess) not so efficient washing machine from the "compagnia generale di elettricità" (general electric company)

Thanks Marco....

for posting all those catalogue pages - really fantastic!

I never knew that some early Philips front loaders had the programmer dial on the right hand side of the facia. All the earliest machines I remember sold in the UK were of the left hand programmer facia style. Seeing Philips machines with right hand side programmers actually looks a bit weird!

The first Hirundo image - my dad repaired one of these machines for an Aunt of mine when I was about five years old. It was badged as an Indesit though - but was identical in style and construction. Nice to see one again.

And finally many thanks for the Philco series of machines. This is the first time I have seen a clear picture of the Cyclotron. This machine was sold in the UK in the mid 1970's and I only ever remember seeing one as a child.
Do any of the UK members know whether the rest of these Philco machines were sold in the UK as well?

Once again Marco - many thanks for sharing these adverts/catalogue pages. They are great.

Cheers
paul

"Fate Bene!"

Is that Robert's long lost Italian sister?

Hi Peter! What does "Is that Robert's long lost italian sister" mean?
"Fate bene" just means "you're doing well". :-)

Hello Paul. I'm happy you enjoyed the little selection of pages from the catalogues I have. Unfortunatelythe filesize is too small to make these pictures easily readable...
I think Philips machines sold in your country were made by a different manufacturer. Here they were made by Ignis, an historical brand here in Italy and now owned by Whirlpool. I'll try to post more pictures from an early eighties Miele catalogue soon.

Cheers
Marco

Philco/Bendix....

A friend of mine at primary school has (or his parents had lol) a Bendix Home Laundry Centre that was very similar to the Philco washer dryer with the controls on the back panel.

Another friend had a Indesit L5 in their kitchen- I always found the top mounted powder dispenser facinating for some odd reason lol. Another thing I remember is it stood next to the sink but wasnt plumbed in- it was used from the Supatap with an adaptor.

*waits for someone to ask what a Supatap is lol*

Hi Seamus, what is a supatap? Whid on earth did you get fascinated by the top dispenser of your friend's Indesit? Anyway I remember those models with the door so small as compared to the larger than usual front...

Can you please post the catalogues above in a bigger size???, just like the ones of Miele that you posted.

Grazie MARCO!

Yes...just because Marco really loves Miele!

Il tuo grande amore per la Miele si vede dalla qualità di conservazione dei tuoi cataloghi...proprio come io tengo i miei Ignis!

OMG! But when did you find the such a lot spare time to scan all those catalogues' pages!?!?!? I suppose you have scanned them in few times...

Anyway THANKS for sharing! (come si è sempre detto da queste parti :-))

PS: devo dire la vertià...credo di essere stato uno dei primi italiani ad approdare su queste pagine, ma ora che non sono più solo leggere nella nostra lingua madre mi fa un certo effetto :-)

philco machines

The philco range were sold ore in the UK under the bendix name, similar looking but the bendix had the square door surround on them. They were fantastic machines, with the criss cross wash action wich washed in a figure of 8, back to front and side to side. The rex machines were the same as the zanussi washers over here. Supataps were introduced in 1970 as mum and dad bought a new wimpey built house and it came with supataps on the kitchen sink. They were like tall stems with the taps facing down on the end, they had little ear type nodules for gripping the tap to turn it. Mum had an indesit L5 washer, and she used a tap adapter on the supataps before it was permanently plumbed in. I think it had chains on it to secure it round the tap.
Memories from 45 years ago.........
