This baby will wash dishes like a beast. My wife and I had one exactly like it for many years. Replaced it with another Superba. Let me know about the soap dispenser. Ours had a tick--it wouldn't open. Sooooo, we just added soap intermitently. dan |

I have two of these, taken apart in the basement. One is a KDS-17 and the other a KDS-17a (with Energy Saver button). In my opinion the 17 series were the best dishwashers KitchenAid ever made. I only wish I could find a Superba with the Stainless Steel interior. I've used several Hobart undercounter machines of the same generation that had the stainless tank and all of the "punch outs" for the dispensers and attachments and always wanted one at home. They would do a complete cycle in less than 5 minutes. I've even seen French Superba 17's with built-in water softeners. These are great machines. |

Reversible color panels didn't come along until much later. Until the 19 or 20 series, KitchenAid dishwashers were ordered/sold without panels of any kind and the customer bought the panel, color or custom-panel fram that they wanted. Most dealers would "package" price them with panels and add on for stainless steel, custom frames, etc. The store we've been to quite a few times in Early, IA had a huge stack of KA dishwasher panels - new in the boxes still. That's also where I found my display panel for the 18 series - plexiglass panel, lights and frame kit for the multi-level washing display in the store. That store was a goldmine and a nightmare all rolled into one! |

This may sound sacrilegious to some, but I've found KitchenAid dishwasher front panels easy to sand down and take sray paint quite well. Not a powder coating, but, really, good enough. You can also sand them down to the metal, if you're careful, and then sray paint them with a clear coat and you've got something that looks a lot like their original "brushed chrome" finish. If you're lucky enough to find a vintage frame kit for custom front panels(and there seem to be a lot of them out there at appliance parts stores)then you're made in the shade. |
