Sorry it is crooked, but then we go here and select every NIB part we may need.

And start putting it back together, first damper pads, then leveling legs, new pulleys, brake, pump, etc. etc.

Almost there, and yes, I have new rubber bumpers that go on the cabinet for the front panel not rub or rattle.

I started this machine last Sunday 06/03/2007 and was done on Tuesday 06/05/2007. I had all the parts I needed in advance, as I do hoard old Maytag parts anyway. I have one more machine to do which is an A606, then I guess I have to go on a scavanger hunt or a shopping spree. All of my machines are done at this point. Love every one of them.

Enjoy!

Steve

What an amazing job you've done and the step by step photo's are great. The machine literally is "like new". I know you have experience but did you feel the transmission was easy to take apart and put back together? I need to do the same to a Maytag I have and am trying to decide whether to tackle it myself, or send it out...

thanks, Patrick

Fantastic work, Steve, and photos were great! Love your all-windows garage door,
too. Makes for a bright workplace. So, how many Maytags have you restored, now?

Great job Steve! I love a fully restored machine. Thats the only way to do it right. That Maytag could be in service for another 30+ years. Thanks for sharing your detailed photos!

Steve that is an incredible job, a restoration to be proud of! I've done that with quite a few of my machines and when I do that thorough of a job I rarely ever have service problems with them again.

Patrick - I know you have experience but did you feel the transmission was easy to take apart and put back together?
Yes, if you do it enough, then it's very easy. If you are doing it for the first time, then it is still easy, just make sure you either take photos of how things go and make an order list of how you took things apart so the reassembly is put back correctly.

Eugene - So, how many Maytags have you restored, now? 14, 10 washers and 4 dryers. Was a lot of fun.

Thanks to all for paying such nice remarks and compliments!

Steve

What a wonderful restoration! Congratulations on a job well done.

By the way, I'm also admiring your garage. I live with someone who feels a garage is a dumping ground for anything and everything he accumulates, which is a jaw-dropping amount of stuff, trust me. I prefer to use it as a space for cars and tools, but every time I attempt to create some order, I'm accused of being obsessive-compulsive. Don't you hate it when people throw around terms they've heard on Dr. Phil without really knowing what they mean?

I'll be showing him your photos later today- "See? There are actually people who have a neat, functional garage!"

Very impressive!

Questions: Did you disassemble & inspect the tranny top and replace the shaft seal? And the bottom shaft seal? What do you repair chipped glaze with (inner basket, & tub)?

WOW ... Steve, that's incredible!! I'm sure that machine will last a long, long time.

Your garage is MAGNIFICENT! What a joy it must be to have the room like that. You can do such a thorough job when you're organized like that. Space is the key, huh?

Thanks for showing the step-by-step; terrific!

Thank again! The garage area is a 2.5 car. I have everyting that I need to do a project with appliances. It is great, and worked long and hard to have it.

As far as the space and the organization, yes, it is always that way. No junk or clutter will transpire here. That is the way I have always been. Clean and neat. Now, not to mention, I aint nothing but a redneck!

I had no idea you were so talented, Steve! So if it's maytags and kenmores for for now, what did it used to be and what brands does the future hold?

Great to have all those parts too, thanks for sharing. I just missed out on a 606 last week, saw it in a garage, figured they were keeping it for a reason, and then it went to the dump before I had a chance to check on it. It was broken and would have needed work but that is how we learn, right!

Steve,

I have two A606's, one is a suds-saver. Both work, but both could probably use some restoration. Your photos are beautiful and instructive. Thanks for posting.
