well this pic shows the inner springs of the clutch.. the outer band item D had some sort of clutch material like kind of cork attached to it that made the clutch work.. well the cork was all gone sort of fell apart so i thought id try and make something work.. got some cork gasket from the auto parts store that comes in a sheet and cut it in a strip and took the band D out cleaned it and glued the cork strip back on.. the put it all back together and really oiled and greased the hell out of it so only time will tell if it works or not but it was worth a try

Well Chris, at least you can't say you didn't try! I'll bet you will be all right though-----you are a good mechanic.

ha almost forgot while i had the clutch off i got a wild hair and decided to change the outer tub bellow boot and change the oil.. the boot is easy but the oil change was not what i had expected.. when i worked on the 61 tag the bolts come in from the top of the trans but on the amp the bolts come in from the bottom ha ha that was fun trying to balance the trans full of fresh oil and start all the bolts from the bottom ha ha it only tipped once and i had to laugh because you know me i love to work in the garage bare footed and yep thats where all the oil spilled .. all over my feet ha ha but i got it and she should like the new oil

Hi Chris, sounds like you are going to have that TAG running like new again. Would love to have been there to see you playing in the oil.

Good news Chris, I wasn't sure if standard roll cork would work for clutch pads, but apparently they do. That is fabulous! The cork clutch pads in the Maytag AMP are very long (much longer than in the Philco) so the cork worked well. In your diagram the parts are as follows:

B=Clutch Drum
C=Clutch Shoe
D=Cork Clutch Pad
A=Clutch Base
