I live in Portland, but unfortunately have no place to put these. Have never seen models such as these with controls at the tops of the consoles. Does anyone know how old these might be?

A face only a mother could love...

I have a 1975 F&W Sears catalog with these models - these were probably TOL as there was no Lady Kenmore set in that issue. The S&S 1976 catalog was the introduction of the black control panel models that lasted for a decade...

Have never seen a control panel like that on a KM, either. Interesting. Panel looks almost Filter-Flo-esque in shape. Hope someone in the AW family can get these KM beauties into their collection.

My aunt and uncle had that dryer.

They bought it in the Spring of 1974, when they moved into their home in McLean Va. They already had a washer, a low end 60s center dial model which they got from my aunt's mother. Although they had a dryer which they bought in 1972 ('71 model though), it was gas, and they needed an electric one for the house they were relocating to.

It was the coolest sounding dryer I have ever heard to this day. Yes, they all pretty much sound alike, but each one has a little of it's own personality. It had a pilot light above the dial, and I remember how it lit up when you positioned the dial on a cycle. I remember that as a 4 year old, every time the dryer finished, I would turn it back on to prevent the clothes from getting wrinkled.

We always visited them every summer. The house was full of gadgetry that would make machine lovers like us think that we had died and gone to heaven.

They had that dryer from 1974 to 1995 when they replaced it with a Kitchen Aid.

I always tried to envision the washer that matched this dryer. Since my aunt and uncle already had a washer they did not need to buy one.

I hope somebody buys them.

Have a good one,
James

Hey everyone...

Chris and I are going to try and rescue these if they're not gone already. I called the number and got a voice mail, so I left a message.

Wish us luck!

Gosh! I thought I was familiar with every model of Kenmore every made. esp. the odd ones. Thought I was seeing a photoshop joke, an alien hybrid. Soooo hope you get them. What a very rare find. Does anyone have larger pics of these anywhere. Dying to see those crazy console-top controls. Don't you all just love this place. Again, gracious good luck on getting that "rara avis in terra " old latin saying for a rare bird on earth--the washer.

Maybe Canadian Kenmore Models

cycla-fabric's profile picture
Could they possibly be Canadian made models that somehow came to the USA?? I think I remember a POD that looked similar to this. Could be wrong though.

I've seen a few sets like the second ones pictured in the catalog over the years. Never have seen the first set.

Love the catalog pages! And that's quite a difference in console styling on the two featured pairs.

how cool!!!

jons1077's profile picture
I'm still kicking myself for not being able to get those. I wonder if that was the first year for the "Penta-swirl" agitator. I sort of had a feeling this machine might have that, but wasn't sure how far back those went.

This one got away. :-(

Well, we were the second people in line for the Kenmore set. Unfortunately the first people took it. Maybe next time.

There is a identical Kenmore washer for free in San Francisco.
Check out the free section on Craigslist San Francisco. It works and is free. The washer looks good and is harvest gold.
Any takers in the Bay Area?
