I don't think I have ever seen or heard of a Thor dryer before this one. What a find! (but my eyes were drawn to the gas stove sitting beside it....is it some sort of low end Tappan? it sure has the correct oven placement to be a Tappan....) |

...might be a Maytag, too! They used Tappan's "layout" for their "Dutch Oven" ranges. Too bad the nameplate in the photo is obscured by the wisps of grandma's ghost! ;-) |

Stove is a "Tappan", and is for sale as well. Posted a link in the "Super" forum as that is where stoves belong. Thor Applinaces: Thor made various laundry and kitchen appliances until about the 1950's IIRC. Their most famous was the "Gladiron" one of the first portable ironers that folded down, and was designed for shirts. Thor also made a combination dishwasher/washing machine, sinks, and other things. Had several ironers in my day,and still have the "Gladiron" owner's manual somewhere. As for the dryer being a "broiler", probably! *LOL* Many vintage electric dryers from the 1940's and 1950's pulled enough power (on 220v mind you) probably darken an entire area today. *LOL* As for the configuration of the heat/vent holes, many commercial/laundromat dryers have a similar design today. I bought it from the guy for $160. He dropped the price for me a little which im glad for. It sure does look like a Hamilton Dryer of the same vintage. Do you think they made it for Thor Appliances??? |

He said he goes to a lot of auctions around the state and picks up whatever looks like someone will buy. -Graham |
