How long have windows been on dishwashers?

I don't think it's a question of how long, but rather when were there windows on dishwashers. The Apex, as pictured, in the very early 50s could be ordered with a window in the cover. The Youngstown, also a top loader, had a window in the lid, at least on all of the models I have seen, but the window was much smaller. The portable version of the James had a lid that was basically all glass in a metal frame. The later version of the James was the front loading Ling Temco which had a glass door in a metal frame. After that, it was demonstration models in stores where there was either a bubble dome on the top loading portables or a plastic plug in the dimensions of the inner door panel and finally the all plastic tanks Maytag and KitchenAid (any others?) used in stores to show the washing action. Now there are some imported small counter top dishwashers and some models of those have a window in the door.

Now isn't that cool, it's an early 50's Apex dishwasher. This is about the fourth one of these to show up over the last five years or so. My model didn't have the window lid, so I cut a piece of glass to watch the action.

Yes Randy please tell us the story behind this dishwasher, we would love to know!!

It's been in storage at my family homestead for 22+ years. It looked the same when we aquired it, except now the detergent that came with it new was like new also. I've been thinking on dragging it out and givin it a good cleaning! Think it's due? Are there any manuals (or copies) of the manual for this bugger? The one that came with it seems to have gone missing

Well I'm not sure what im gonna do with it after i get it out and cleaned up. I doubt there is gonna be much restoring, It never washed a dish!!! This puppy is BRAND-VIRGIN-NEW !!! Never had a drop of water in it. It still had the original tags on it when it came to roost(didn't look that close yet). In fact it still has the original shipping pallet attached. I just got a bug and went rummaging around for a project that would be good for an overdue mental health break. Ya know? My beloved is in the process of buying a business and we have been planning to expand, including a new, from the ground-up coin(card)-op laundry. Maybe I should put in a "place of honor" for it in the floor plans??? Any ideas_suggustions? We are still researching the laundry suppliers and specs and haven't actually started the floorplans yet.
