i like the frigidaire FL. have had two FL gallery's, and both were good experiences.. giving my 2 year old FL to my ex.
I am confused.
i have a 30" depth in my laundry closet that limits me to either the frig affinity, or the TOL gallery. the TOL gallery i like because of the square door opening.
but is one better than the other? is the affinity better than the gallery ? the price with the rebate on the affinity comes out the sam price..
any suggestions between these machines? cannot find one article on which is better..

Basically any of the Frigidaire front loaders are good. Just whatever you do don't buy LG.

With Peter, I would also go with any of the Frigidiare Front-Load Washer Model's. Since I do have space, being that my Laundry area is in my Garage, I would also think about the Maytag Epic Set as well.

Good luck with your decisions, be sure to let us know which Washer you decide to buy.

Consumer Reports rates the square-door Gallery model higher than the Affinity, if that helps you. The Affinity rated lower in cleaning ability.

I like the Fridgemore. It is a great machine and so quiet,you cannot even tell if it is on.

FL Purchase

 Be careful with the affinity-the ones I checked on dumb down the warm water fill-if you want warm you have to stand there with the control on hot for a while,then turn to warm.There is no question that the Frigidaire machines are the best value for the $,but I am not going to tolerate improper temperatures.

 I agree that the Frig is the best value for the money. I have the 2140 set. Don't get the one with Auto Temp Control-- it'll just mean you can't wash anything in more than lukewarm water. Also, if the water level is too low for your liking, the machine is easily modified.

The dryer isn't that great, but could be because the capacity isn't very large.

Speaking of Water Temps.....

 My MAH4000 Neptune has ATC on warm, but it maintains the warm temperature at 105, not 95. And they were smart to not ATC hot, so hot is 120, not 100.

Some retailers in my area are discounting the Affinity 6000 to BELOW the asking price for the 2140 or 2940. If you don't want auto temp control, then get the 2140. I have had mine since March 2006 and so far performance and reliability has been excellent.

On another site, I read reviews by consumers about the 6000 and several contributors said that their control boards had gone bad, and that the replacement parts were backordered. That publicity, and/or the poor CR reviews already mentioned by others in this thread, may be responsible for the heavy discounting of the 6000.

My only beef about the 2140 is that its time delay feature cannot be adjusted: either you have an eight hour delay or no delay. The 2940 has a variable delay of 4-12 hours. I use the time delay feature far more than anticipated now that I have had the machine for a while. I often set up a load to wash at 4 or 5 am, so that I can transfer the load to the dryer about the time I wake up...and then remove the dried clothes after breakfast and a shower.

Problem is, I'm not always home at 8 or 9 pm (8 hours before I want the load to begin). Maybe I'll leave the house after dinner to attend a meeting and I don't return until 10 or 11 pm. It would be nice to be able to delay the wash for 4 or 6 or 10 hours, rather than 8 hours or no delay. Some utilities are installing "smart" electric meters that will measure WHEN the current is used, and charges for offpeak usage may be lower than during the peak of daytime demand. So those who set up their machines to wash overnight may save some in energy costs. (same goes for dishwashers).

GE version of the 2140....under $500!

 Home Depot sells a GE-badged version of the 2140 for $494.

The model number is WSSH300GWW

The matching gas dryer is $503.

Because Home Depot is everywhere, you can get the equivalent of the Frigidaire 2140 with matching dryer for $1000 total, without regard to whether you live near a discounter that is selling below MSRP. I've only seen the GE at Home Depot, so I suspect it is a special model made just for them. I don't know how good Home Depot's return policy and service is, but you can't argue with $1000 for a KNOWN quality of machine. The dryer is a little small, I have to turn king sized comforters inside out once during the drying, but otherwise it can handle a big sized load of clothing no problem.

Just keep the door gasket wiped dry and leave the door open to air out.

 The Home Depot GE model does NOT include the pedestal, that is at additional cost. You can stack the washer and dryer, as I have done. Frigidaire sells a stacking bracket for about $20. Use of a pedestal AND a stack is not recommended due to the overall height (over seven feet tall) and possible instability, unless you use a built in arrangement and are tall enough to reach the controls on top of the dryer.

I don't recommend

doing any business with Home Depot based on their worse than poor treatment of customers when problems arise. I strongly suggest finding another retailer.

Watch the fine print wHome Depot

 A friend of mine just had a horrible time buying a washer from Home Depot.

The washer was damaged during installation; when my friend asked Home Depot to correct the situation and replace the machine, Home Depot said, "Sorry, we are not a stocking retailer, we are just an 'authorized reseller,' so only G.E. can handle your situation."

It took a ton of screaming and escalating to get Home Depot to "bend the rules" and deal with my friend directly.

Read the fine print and ask Home Depot exactly what their post-delivery responsibilities are. You may be surprised to find the answer is, "Nothing."

 is selling the 2140 for $540; the dryers are $500 for electric and $550 for gas.

 That's a really good deal, considering an LG washer alone goes for around $1000-1600!
