I can get this for less than $50. Center Dial Maytags seem to be relatively scarce around here. Can anyone tell from the pictures what model it is?

Less Than $50?

Yep, if it's working it's definitely worth that.

If it washes for one year, you've gotten your money's worth out of it, c'mon. If it died beyond repair after that (not all that likely), it's still great for parts.

Go for it.

Plus is has that wonderful long "Automatic" button. When you deselect the Automatic button a wringer head pops out of the right side of the machine. Be careful where you are standing when you press Automatic, it can be quite painful when it pops out (if you are standing in the way). :)

I think this is the same machine that Tony's mom has. I think hers is an A308 or A208. 4 water levels and three temps. It should have a two-speed motor dictated by the cycle timer just like a Kenmore. Whatever the model...it's a great machine and washer quite well!

Jon-

The A208 was a standard capacity, two speed machine.

I know, because I had one from 1978 to 1996.

Automatic button ! lol.

I've seen that button before, but never had the courage to push it.
Robert, was this feature what made Maytags TOL ?
Cause I don't think other brands offered that option.

Must be a 208 then. My grandmother's 108 has that Automatic button too, but its stuck permanently in. Maybe the 108 did not include the wringer-washer feature?

Model 108. Smaller capacity, single speed. Basic washer. $50.00 isn't too bad, if it works, and doesn't have a major oil leas underneath.

My advice is given freely, value accordingly.

Are you sure? I have a 108, and mine has only three load selector buttons to the right of the "AUTOMATIC" delete panel. This one has four.

Not challenging you, just curious if there was more than one version of the 108.

It could

be the 308, which was the large capacity single speed machine, but we'd have to see the data plate to be certain.

That's an A308. You can tell by the "Automatic" Button and the unusual 3 cycle dial. This was a forerunner of the Fabric-matic. Gansky posted this last year:

The HOH dryers with the long, "Electronic Control" button also had a feature that when de-selected, an umbrella clothes dryer would extend from the left side of the machine and pop open, ready for hanging clothes. A lot of people never knew this!

YAY! I got a model right!!!

OK, I'm sure that what Robert said is true about Deselecting the automatic button. But the Dryer?
I think your just making that up.

Cause if this were the case the machines could only sit side by side with the washer on the right. But the dryer is hinged on the right. Now, how would that look?

Yep, you guys are good. But, I-II think you have underestimated the quality of the turnip truck that I came here on.

Isn't that the era of Maytag

wherein the data plate is a little triangle of aluminum
in the RIGHT or left rear of the lid opening?

Won't that be nice when we all chip in and get Robert
a nice Harvest Gold of that model for his 12th anniversary of
collecting? He will quickly learn how to dodge the wringer
assembly, therby avoiding facial bappation. He'll learn how to hang his hip huggers using six clothespins for each pair;
which provides a mangled to perfection finish! :>

Robert is correct on the deselect AUTOMATIC button on the lower end Maytag models. However,to deactivate, you have to face the washer north, stand on one foot(left)and simultanously press the SMALL LOAD and HOT button for the thing to actually consider to expel the wringer for the NON-AUTOMATIC option. If you haven't done that from the time the washer was first purchased, you must then climb to the Valley of the Dolls to get a shrubbery to place on top of the control panel. Not too big, however.

wow petersex, your washer looks as though it has always been used in the "automatic" mode. The "automatic" button is so white compared to the often used temp and load size buttons. I bet that feature has only been used a few times on your machine.
That's understandable.

Gadge

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the large capacity tubs
of that era are white.

Actually the AUTOMATIC button slides to the side to reveal the remote-control receiver.
To go into auto-mode use the righthand button on an old Zenith Space Command 100 remote if you don't have the original Maytag remote.
