Since there was all this talk about old Zanussi made hotpoints and also about some of the early 1980s washing machines i just make a dedicated thread to Zanussi Laundry and Dishwashing appliances.

Ever since i was a wee boy Zanussi was always the brand for me. I always loved the design and the engineering of Zanussi appliances. I really just want to find out more sice researching it myself hasn't really gotten me far :-(

David.

Just transferring in ......

the INPUT SYSTEM ZE2002IS.

Once again, cheers Dave for reporting the existence of this Z-series computer control Zanussi.
Had no idea that this variant even existed.

Anyone got a better image of the machine facia at all?

The machine was semi integrated, with a full frontal door opening from the right, revealing standard Zanussi Z-series door design (that is my understanding anyway).

Have done a bit more research along the Z-series lines, courtesy of Which magazines.

The basic series of 'science Z's' appeared between 1981 and 1982 and appeared to comprise:

Z915T (basic model, 500rpm only, no options)
Z918T (800/500rpm, half load option)
Z919T (1000/500, half load and cold wash options)
Z929T (as above but with a detachable lower panel concealing the filter - can't quite fathom any point to this!)
Z939T (as above but with a button for 500rpm spin)
Z949T (as per Z939T but a semi integrated machine)
Z988T (top loader, drum type with 800rpm spin)

Three all button cotrol machines were built:

Z1000S (1983 - currys exclusive)
Z2001IS (1982)
ZE2002IS (1984)

The Z989 was introduced circa 1984 and was a 1000rpm top loader, again of the drum type.

The complete series was overhauled and reintroduced, to my understanding, looking exactly the same but with the addition of another letter or number in the model description i.e Z929T became Z9292T and Z918 became Z9181.

Only been able to decipher three dryers:

Z907 (no idea)
Z910T (standard machine with two heat options)
Z930 (sensordryer - turn the dial to specific fabric type programmes and the machine does the rest. Not timer controlled)

A bit rough round the edges, but there you have it - the appliance of science!

Any feedback on accuracy, omissions etc greatly welcomed. Zanussi's model line up have always been a bit of a mystery and I am not even going to attempt the follow on 'FJ' series.

Cheers
Paul
p.s the very blurred piccy may or may not be a Z949T - anyone able to confirm?

No problem! I would agree with you about the design of it. I have seen a decor panel model before and it was just the same design.

I know of the later model the FE4000 being on TV. It was Helen Mirrens washing machine in "The Hawk" if you want a look haha.

Zanussi JetSystem

Hi Guys,
Don't forget Zanussi's JetSystem which was without doubt the single biggest advance in washing technology in the 1980s and the first truly energy efficient wash technology.

Cheers for the link to the manual and identifying the machine. It has been in my photo collection for probably 8 to 10 months or so now and was acquired when the washer/dryer bug bit me again big time.

Am glad that I am able to finally put an identitiy to it - cheers.

As I say in my piece, the above listing is a bit rough round the edges and it will be interesting to see what, hopefully, other people will come up with.

One of the 1984 machines was a bit of an anomoly and I dont quite understand the point of it - the Z818!
Why numbered Z8**?
Why exist at all when the Z915T replecement (the Z9151) probably served the same purpose?

Paul

I like the older Zanussi's on this thread, I've never seen the ZE2002IS model in real life before but I've read instruction book on ServiceForce. It'd be nice to see it working too! More info on those models please!

Cool!

Nice washer/dryer! Just a wee question, is the brochure for the full range or just the laundry stuff? If you could get a clear picture of the washing machine tha would be ace!

Great thread! I love these machines and the early one's were so quiet too.

I've decided that a good old induction machine is my next buy. I've got a Electron on old Hotpoint so now I would like an old Zanussi, Philco, Bendix etc..

Did ask about the chrome door Zanussi on ebay from Derby. Unfortunately, the motor has been replaced and I really want the old induction motor if I can get it.

I'll post some pics on this later.

Rob

I would love to hear and old induction motor since i still have never really heard one excpet on an Ariston washing macine.

Back in the mists of time (1987), I bought my mum a Zanussi DW400 dishwasher. It was similar in style to Darren's washer dryer, above, but had the dark grey control panel. It was a basic machine that had four programmes, the most intensive being a 65 deg mainwash with cold pre-rinse. This machine lasted for seven years and was subject to a recall, to do with the wiring loom and rinse-aid leakage (fire risk), then the door springs gave out, the filter disintegrated, and finally the motor seized. On reflection, the capacitor probably just needed replacing, but by that time new models were hypnotising me!

So in 1994 a Zanussi DW925 was purchased. This was a top end model and had the 'SID' (Super Intensity Dispenser) pots 'n' pans cycle. This gave a far better wash, had heater assisted drying, but only lasted six years: the door springs kept snapping and the control panel cracked, with a complete corner falling off - you could reach into the programmer wiring!!!

It was replaced by another Zanussi, a DWS935, which was a crock of shit. The upper spray arm caught on the dispenser flap, the plastic filter mesh tore, and eventually the machine stopped filling. It lasted for under five years.

Mother now has an Indesit-based Hotpoint FDW20, which had a broken door catch 18 months into its lifespan. It is a basic machine and it's a noisy bugger!

Z949T

Hi all

I remember my aunt having a Z949T (semi-integrated Z939T) from about 1981, which was still working perfectly with its original induction motor when she had a new kitchen fitted in 2008, which included a "free" Zanussi washing machine. I am pretty sure that it had a new door seal, but nothing else in all those years - pretty good! Her new one (unsure of model no but it's a mid-range 1400 spin with JetSystem from 2008) is noticeably noisier.

I wish now I'd rescued it from the skip as I'm sure someone on here would have liked it.

I'm sure that it was 800/500 spin speed, though, not 1000/500, although I could be wrong. It was a lovely - and quiet - machine.

I remember her getting caught out many (many!) times by opening the door after a synthetics cycle before draining/spinning. That model used to stop with the drum full of water (rinse hold) BUT unlock the door !

rolls_rapide - my parents had very similar dishwashers to you. I can't remember the exact model number of the first one, but it was like your DW400, but had the delay-start control knob too. It was given to my mum 2nd hand, so was never recalled - but interestingly, the rinse aid solenoid exploded (loudly!) and blew all the fuses one evening. It was repaired, but eventually the pump failed and it was replaced with a DWS935 - same opinion of that as you! That was an awful dishwasher, forever going wrong (like yours, wouldn't fill), springs failed, the door catch broke, and after about 5 repairs, they gave up with it and bought a Bosch.

Z949T. Am sure it would have found a home with someone. Ahhhh well .... we have memories of these Italian clssics:

Post# 770445 , Reply# 16   7/13/2014 at 05:18 (3,546 days old) by gletts (Crawley)

That's the one! My aunt also had the slightly newer grey control panel dishwasher - not sure of the model, but it was the TOL (or near TOL) one for it's day with about 5 push buttons, and the grey-style control knob. That lasted slightly less time, but was from about 1985-2005 before it gave up. It used to suffer, I remember, from wires breaking in the door - I guess from wear as the door was opened/closed.

Gutted I didn't rescue the Z949T - I may have even kept it myself and used it!

As far as I remember it had no marks/scratches etc and she used to use Calgon with every wash as they had very hard water (Princes Risborough, Bucks) so it had been looked after - probably one of the reasons it lasted so well. It had a decor panel fitted to match her original kitchen, so the front white panels would have been unmarked behind it.

I imagine the amount of water these machines used would be scary compared to today's machines, but they certainly were Italian classics, and although used a lot more water, seem to have lasted far longer than today's machines. This is for another topic - but I can't help feeling that we've traded using a bit less water and electricity, for filling landfill sites with fairly new appliances that are uneconomic to repair.
