It's the Maytag Bravos, with an "S" at the end. By the way jonv112, I saw your channel on Youtube. Could you post more videos. And by the way, I also own a Kenmore Elite Oasis.

More tidbits of information. The machine is advertised as being able to hold 23 full-size bath towels in one load. The machine's balance system makes for quiet operation and if a load goes unbalanced it will automatically correct it.

More information. The machine has a washplate known as the Invizible Agitator even though it's not an agitator. It gently swirls the clothes through the water in an action dubbed the "Gentlewash Cleaning Action." It also has an option to spray wash the clothes with a mixture of detergent and water and then spins slowly to help lift set in stains. This is known as the "Catalyst Cleaning Action."

Also I just got home from Sears and managed to get a look at washers. Conventional Top-Loaders are very slowly dwindling. I saw a lot of Front-Loaders including GE and the Kenmore HE2, HE3t, HE4t, and HE5t, the LG TROMM SteamWasher, and even Bosch! But I also saw a whole wall of Kenmore Oasis washers and dryers. They had them in plain white and Diamond Black but the one that really caught my eye was a Pacific Blue set with the Laundry Plus+ Storage tower at the foot of the wall. The set was a darkish blue with a gray control panel and lid/door with glass on each of them. Above them was information about how the Oasis clean better than the competion. There were also step-down models including the one with a fully solid lid and the non-HE Kenmore Oasis. The final irony: The wall next to that one sold Whirlpool Cabrios!

Here is a list of the machine's features:

4.5 Cu.Ft. Canyon Capacity: Can hold 23 full-size bath towels in one load.

Catalyst Cleaning action: Flushes a mixture of detergent and water onto the load and spins slowly to squeegee the load and lifts out set in stains to eliminate the need for petreating.

Gentlewash technology with Invizible Agitator: Cleans the load by gently swirling the load through the water. This is gentler on clothes than a regular agitator.

1050 RPM Max spin speed. A higher spin speed removes more water from clothes and thus lessens drying time.

Uses 47% less water and 53% less energy than a conventional Top-Loading washer.

QuietPak 9 sound insulation: Ensures for super-quiet operation.

ClearView tempered glass lid: A glass lid lets you view the cycle at all times. Handy because the lid locks closed during a cycle.

Automatic Water Level: Detects the size of the load and fills up with just the right amount of water for every load.

Automatic Temparature Control: Regulates the temp. of incoming water to make cold water warmer and properly dissolve detergent.

TripleSmart Dispenser: Automatically dispenses detergent, bleach and fabric softener at the right time during the cycle.

Delay start up to 13 hours: Lets you start the washer at a later time.

Advanced suspension sytem: Ensures for smooth and quiet operation during spin.

Auto Off-Valance/Sudslock correction: The machine corrects and Off-Balance load or a sudslock if one is detected.

Now for info on the dryers. They all come in electric and gas forms. The dryer is the industries largest dryer at a whopping 7.5 cu. ft. capacity. The dryer's features include the following:

Automatic dryness sensor: Can dry a load in only 30 minutes!

WrinkleGuard 90 wrinkle control: Tumbles the load without heat intermittently for up to 90 minutes after cycle end to prevent wrinkles from forming.

QuietPak 9 soud insulation: Ensures for super quiet operation.

GentleHeat technology: One motor controls the blower fan and one controls the tumbling of the drum with out any belts!

ClearView glass door with EasyLoad feature and auto drum light: Let's you view the cycle without having to stop it.

Heated dryer rack: A Kenmore exclusive! Heats "Lay flat to dry" items faster.

Um, I am all for new technology that is energy efficient.
Don't these machines have like a really bad reputation for cleaning ability?
I mean I have seen them people giving them away, when they aren't much more than a year or 2 old. ?

Post# 234127 , Reply# 18   8/30/2007 at 20:45 (6,076 days old) by lulundave ()

I owned the Cabrio HE without agitator for 6 LONG months. It was horrible. Sure, it held alot of clothing. But it didn't clean well at all. The washing action twists clothes into tight masses and the soiled areas on the clothes are never washed away. It also spins so fast that it set wrinkles into the clothes that don't come out unless you iron. What is the point in a high spin speed if you have to turn it down to a medium spin for every wash? The machine also uses very little water. The glass lid allows one to see how the clothing on the top of the pile gets a very short time submerged under water. The clothes on the top mostly just wiggle around in their tight twisted mass.

I really wanted to like this washer. I loved the idea of water savings, energy savings etc. But it was just a very poorly designed machine. I don't believe it was tested with real dirty laundry in the test runs.
By the way - it was repaired 3 times in 6 months.

Whirlpool finally agreed to swap the machine but only for the same one. So I chose the Cabrio with agitator. Although it is not HE - I am pleased. The loads that this one can handle are HUGE. Clothes are very clean and spun nicely (950rpm).

I do have the gas dryer. So far it's been ok. It dries an extra large load in about 50 minutes. If you use one of the preset dry options you often have to dry clothing for 10 more minutes as the sensor seems to not get that the seams-cuffs are not quite dry.

Hope this helps those of you who are researching this new machine.

OK, so it holds 23 bath towels in one load....

Which can't move around because there's 47% less water and a very small impeller at the bottom.

It would be a very cool concept if the energy saving garbage wasn't there to kill it.

Any cycles that actually fill to the top with water?

decodriveboy

Yes, the sheets/towel setting fills up to the top.

Towards the end of my 6 months of use I used this setting often just to get semi clean results.

But it was probably the equivelant of filling a bucket full of water and sloshing it around with your hand!!!

I am wondering if Whirlpool designed this machine with the distinct purpose of making top-loaders gain a bad reputation? Which would be good for directing people who have been so accustomed to toploaders to frontloaders.
Conspiracy? perhaps (rubbing chin)? Not necessarily a bad one.

I think Whirlpool has done a great, no, over the top job with the front loaders. I love my Duet.
But the other toploader HE machines are just the opposite.

They still make basically the same dryers that they have made for like the last 40 years. I like my near BOL 7 year old KM electric dryer.

I doubt Whirlpool has any nefarious purposes behind the Oasis/Cabrio/Bravos design. There's a sizable segment of the market that is die-hard for toploaders .. and like it or not, TL design must change to confirm with the enforced energy restrictions. I'd also *imagine* that design testing does bring forth many of the problems that can and do occur. Design refinements are likely done to the degree that they can be, attempts to head-off trouble via instructions in the user guides (I.E. do not wrap sheet around the wash plate .... use only HE detergent ... etc.). Some effects perhaps cannot be completely eliminated, but hopefully minimized ... or even accepted by the consumer-at-large as a trade-off for the "new-age" toploaders vs. those of old which at some point may no longer be available AT ALL.

F&P's AquaSmart is already on the floor at some stores. I've seen them at a Lowe's nearby.

Yes, that's true. You can avoid or nullify the negative effects of the Oasis/Cabrio/Bravos by following the instructions exactly. Also the merger of Whirlpool and Maytag was actually a benefit because both companies are known for their long-lasting duarbility and high quality aplliances. Also, they did have problems with these machines when they first came out. The control panels would frequently show error codes( Most commonly F40, F41, and F51.) There were also reports of the washer dying with a "pop" of the control panel and being rendered useless and also locking clothes inside when it happened. They thankfully recalled the washer and dryer and improved these problems. They have done this a few more times I belive.

Like it or not, conventional Top-Loaders are going obsolete just like VHS. Soon, the only washers will be Front-Loaders and HE Top-Loaders like the Oasis/Cabrio/Bravos.

Yes, Fisher & Paykel have come out with an agitator-less top loader. It is called the AquaSmart. It has a matching dryer called the AeroSmart which comes in electric and gas modes and yes it is top-loading. It was just realeased to the USA and yes, I did see the set at Lowe's.

Other HE Top-Loaders include the GE Harmony and the Haier Genesis. Both, I think are designed by LG.

We have had our Cabrio HE for a little over a year now and it has had absolutely no problems (knock on wood).

I think that the machine cleans VERY well, even with the lower water levels. A lot of the problems the people are having are not conforming the way they work. If they didn't have the transparent lids, people wouldn't know the difference. When they look into the washer and can't see any water and the clothes barely moving they freak and think that something is wrong... If you look up the reviews, its the ones that have the transparent lids... I have seen maybe 2 that have problems with the solid lid and they where real mechanical problems

I tend to use the sheets/towels setting since it uses the most water and depending on whats in the load more vigorous wash action.

The machine is sourced from F&P and they have a solid track record. Again, its machine made and mass produced so THERE is going to be problems! Its not hand crafted, if it was the price would be dramatically higher.
