My hub has the same split. I assumed it's made that way, but looking closer now it does appear to be cracked. I could open up my other Calypso for a look, but I'd rather not, at least not until I get the current one finished! Per your video, the hub should not be loose and movable. Unfortunately the hub is not separately replaceable far as I know, I've not seen it listed at any parts sites and there's probably not a field-tool for handling the nut. You could check with a parts supplier on the embossed number to be sure, but you'll likely have to get the entire basket. Yes, it sucks 'cause the baskets aren't cheap, and it's a point of concern with both of our machines having this problem. It'll be interesting to find how well they last after being refurbished and used with care. As for CalypsNo ... Whirlpool made some errors in the design (and took a hit on their reputation), but the machines are what they are. I imagine Robert and Greg and Jimmy and many others have spent large amounts of fundage refurbishing/rebuilding and maintaining their collections. |

The split in the hub is normal. Mine looks the same way. The hub is not, however, separate from the basket. It's designed to be a single piece. The nut itself, however, is cracked. |

Andrew, to clarify, your hub is not "cracked" thusly? I'm 99.99999% sure mine was already cracked when I disassembled and pulled the basket for clean-up. My picture of the the hub before clean-up vaguely shows a crack (filled with debris) toward the left front at about "7 PM." After clean-up it's clearly visible toward the back right at about "1 PM." I thought it was designed that way, until I saw Jackson's and see that the split is not machined smoothly.
