got in there before me!

I had saved the link to my favourites in readness to post it myself.

Looks in great nick!

Would I be right in thinking that the 1460 was the first of the standard basic design twin tub from Hotpoint, that was to last till the end of twinnie production, or were there earlier versions prior to this, but post 1400/1420 and twin-six?

Paul
p.s did the Twin-Six have a model number or was it solely known by its name?

Hi Paul

As far as I know there was a model in between the 1420 and 1460. It was the 1450 and was the same as the 1460 I believe except it had different knobs. The knobs were all black and had a raised bit in the middle you would use to turn them. Im not 100% sure but I think thats right.

We had its sister machine the 1466 De Luxe which we gave to a friend.

I took pics though......

Whilst looking in the folder with the pics in, I realised I had recorded a short video of the machine. Its an old video so was done on our old camera so unfortunately only 20 seconds long and with no sound.

Mark, yeah, the 1450 was tested in Which? October 1967, but unfortunately there's no picture of the control panel.

I'd have said that the first of the Standard Hotpoint twinnies was the 1420 though. I've pinched this picture from Keith's (where has he gone?) website of it, it's clearly the precursor of the later machines, but no spiraclean agitator, and you've gotta love the round knobs on the lids! Which? tested that one in March '65.

Does anyone know what the twin six actually looked like, by the way?

Hello Gentlemen

mickeyd's profile picture
I can't believe the style and sophistication and beauty of that machine, so sleek and elegant. It makes me think of the Tower Unimatic, and to think it boasts the fabulous Spiralator
AND A FILTER-FLO. What a GEM.

Hello Mickeyd

Hi Mickeyd!
Yesss, they are! And I think that the most stylish version was definetely the version to be seen on Hoover3060's pix.
The later version, I have at home, imported from the UK in 1989 because this type of machines had disappeared from the German market since the 1960s, had darker colours (cocoa-brown lids, control panel, knobs and rubber mat, dark blue-grey tub and spinner can.
I love these Hotpoint Twinnies so much because they have ALL a washer can have: spiralator wash-action - very thorough though very gentle on fabrics as they "pump" the washing up and down through the suds.
Filter clean tray - no fluff, no undiluted washing powder = whiter whites and blacker blacks!
Super fast spin - 3,100 rpm - none faster: most fabrics are already ironing dry and dryers only need a very short time to get things cupboard dry - less energy means also less environmental burden!!
And last but not least: the only really very well and thorough because evenly working spin-rinse system I have ever used: multi spray - 16 jets drench the washing absolutely perfect and quick!
But the most interesting and stunning thing on these twinnies: they can cope with TWO loads at the same time!

Ralf

Hi Simon

I had forgotten the 1420 was in the same standard styling as the 1450.All I could remember of the 1420 was that it had the old straight vane agitator so guessed it was different. As I said I wasn't 100% sure if I was correct.

I remembered last night I have some pics of the Hotpoint spinner which matched the 1450. We had one ages ago and sold it on Ebay as we just didn't use it and so we wanted to sell it to someone who would appreciate it more and use it.

Paul I also remembered the 1450 had shiny turqouise lids instead of the shiny deep blue ones. The pics will show you the knob style and the writing style.

Pics of the matching spinner to the 1450 below.

Hi Marc!

Didn't know that Hotpoint made Spin-A-Rinses, too!? Here in Germany we only had those from HOOVER!
Can you give an explanation for the switch's marks?
What does SHORT SPIN : RINSE mean, for example?

Thanx, Ralf

Hi Ralf

Well basically the spin dryer is like a Hoover Spinarinse in that you dont actually have any means of autorinsing as such. I dont really understand why Hotpoint put "rinse" etc on it as basically all it is is a timer. Like the Hoover spinarinse (The ones with a timer) you simply run water into it manually then close the lid and turn on the timer and it shuts off when the times complete.

Hope that makes sense.

How do guys.

Mark - does model 1012/01 or 1012/02 ring any bells with your spin dryer?

Below is the model 1012/03 and with your machine being the older version, plus employing Hotpoints old method of /slashes denoting variations of the same model, I am hazarding a guess at what model number your machine was.

Any idea?
Cheers
Paul

Paul

It was a model 1012 but not sure which version. We also had the later 1012 as in the pictures you posted above. Didnt take pics of either of the rating plates so couldn't tell you which version either was im afraid. All I know is that the earlier version as in my pics was definately a 1012 as I remember being confused as to why both spinners we had were different but had the same model number. I didnt think to look if there was a version number after the 1012 as didnt realise at the time that Hotpoint did different "versions" of models.

Ahh...I got it, Mark!!

The 'short spin : rinse' is the timer setting for delicate spinning action between two rinsings of delicates as well as for the final spin of these items, wheras the setting 'rinsing' is for the normal spinning-time in between two rinsing cycles of normal clothes. And the spin setting is the setting for the final spin of normal garments!
Correct?
A nice week-end to all of you - Ralf

Hotpoint Knows How To Rubbish Hoover

*LOL*

Could Hotpoint make their message any clearer? *LOL*

Will have to say, Hoover twin tubs do tangle loads, which is one of the reasons mine sits sitting not often used. Wish the Hotpoint machine was offered on this side of the pond, would make an interesting addition. One can purchase a twin-tub from Alliance Laundry systems, which as many of the same features, but they are dear.
